We recently held our first evening meeting in Spanish Fort, and it was a great success. We are excited to continue these meetings to allow members and prospective members in the northern part of the Eastern Shore to attend a meeting close to home and to allow individuals whose schedule conflicts with our lunch meeting to attend meetings.   Our speaker for the July evening meeting has spent almost his entire life in Baldwin County-creating personal ties that inspired a career of service to the community he grew up loving. Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack is currently serving in his 5th term as Baldwin County Sheriff. Over his last 18 years in office, he has proven his integrity, dedication and devotion to the community that elected him. Continually serving his community, Sheriff Mack has held office in the Robertsdale Rotary Club as well as the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, and he has sat on the boards of the Baldwin County Economic Alliance and Boy Scouts of America. He has also been recognized for his service with a number of awards.

Right now there will be 10 spaces at the table marked with the Chamber logo. If the list fills up, please join our waiting list. We will add additional groups based on the level of interest.  You can choose from 1 of 3 restaurants each month. For August, your options are Rock Creek in Fairhope, Dragonfly Tavern in Daphne and Blue Gill in Spanish Fort. Make sure you are registering for the restaurant you want to attend. This two-hour journey through the busy Port of Mobile will introduce guests to the incredible modern facilities and rich history of the city’s harbor. Along the way we will get a once-in-a- lifetime chance to get a close waterside view of the venerable SS United States, the fastest ocean liner to ever cross the Atlantic and the largest passenger ship ever built entirely in this country. The decommissioned 1950s liner, recently arrived from Philadelphia, is temporarily undergoing work in a drydock facility as preparations are made for it to be sunk in the Gulf as an artificial reef. We will cruise by, sharing stories about this remarkable vessel, a true icon of American maritime heritage. WE WILL NOT BE BOARDING THE SS UNITED STATES ON THE CRUISE. As the floating dock we usually board from is not in place at the moment, this cruise will board from the Mobile Convention Center parking deck adjacent to the river. There is no ramp; a step or two is required to board the boat. Sorry, but we are unable to accommodate wheelchairs from this loading facility until the city's floating dock is back in place.

During this special program, children will be introduced to a few of the basic survival techniques that could mean life or death in the unfortunate event they became lost in the outdoors.
