Nuvision Alaska is honored to once again partner with American Legion Jack Henry Post 1 for the fourth consecutive year to host a headstone cleaning event at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. Learn more: https://ow.ly/Tz7250VMmlM  Saturday, May 24th  11:00 AM – 2:00 PM  Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery In observance of Memorial Day, we invite our members and community to join us in honoring fallen service members by helping restore and clean veterans’ headstones. This effort ensures their names remain visible and their sacrifices never forgotten. Volunteers are encouraged to bring: • Gloves • 5-gallon buckets & water spray bottles (no pressure washers) • Natural or nylon bristle scrub brushes (no metal or plastic) • Sod-cutting tools (lawn knives, pruning saws, box cutters) • Small hand tools (trowels, pruners, cultivators) The Legion Auxiliary and VFW will mark graves with flags in advance. Got items to donate? Drop them off! At the event, BBBSAK will be accepting donations of clothing and other acceptable items at their Donation Center between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM on May 27th. Your donations do so much good: Help raise crucial funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska. Keep unwanted items out of landfills, promoting sustainability. Support local non-profits and boost our local economy. JOIN THE POLYNESIAN ASSOCATION OF ALASKA IN CELEBRATING ASIAN AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The month of May commemorates the migration of the first immigrants from Japan to the United States on May 7, 1843 and to celebrate the completion of the transcontinental railroad by over 20,0000 Asian immigrants on May 10, 1869. However, the first Asian immigrants arrived in the U.S. in 1587 when Filipinos first began migrating to California. Immigrants continued to come from the Asian continent and the Pacific Islands through 1920 when the first Samoans were documented in Hawaii. The civil rights movement assisted the liberalization of immigration laws. The 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act changed restrictive national origin quotas and allowed for the large numbers of Asians and Pacific Islanders to come to the United States with their families. Help celebrate the contributions AANHPI have made in the United States and learn more about the culture of those who have made powerful strides towards advancing AANHPI cultural heritage opportunities here in the U.S.
