NAMI Connection Support Group is a confidential, peer-led mutual support group for any adult who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition.  If you live with a mental illness or care about someone who does, you are not alone.  At our in-person mental health support groups, you can speak with others who understand firsthand what you're going through.  By sharing your experiences in a safe and confidential setting, you can gain hope and feel a sense of connection.  You'll benefit from others' experiences, discover your inner strength, and empower yourself by sharing your own experiences in a non-judgmental space.  There is no cost to attend. There will be response walls, shared reflections, and space to slow down and take part in something meaningful together. We will have live music from the UAF Jazz Combo, food from Toast, permanent jewelry from The Bond Bar, and a bar running that night. It is also a platform to educate employment specialists on what types of candidates are appropriate and what types of job opportunities are available.    Each meeting will be one hour long and will follow a semi-formal agenda. Each meeting will have a guest speaker for 20-30 minutes ranging from different local employers to community support agencies that serve both employment candidates as well as businesses. There will be opportunities to announce local job openings and community employment events, as well as network and ask questions of employers, community support agencies and employment specialists. Job seekers are not a part of this group or these meetings. This group is open to hiring professionals, employment specialists and partner agencies. This open group does not require weekly attendance, but rather popping in and out of meetings that appeal to you.
