Register: https://bunnell-street-arts-center.square.site/tickets-workshops Artist Statement: “Ai Weiwei’s 1995 Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn shows the artist deliberately smashing a 2,000-year-old urn. In doing so, he rejects part of his country’s cultural heritage and critiques the production of cultural value in China. ‘What would you smash to the ground?’ I asked Jenny as we admired the life-size Triptych. ‘A Macbook Pro,’ she replied. As artists, it is difficult to remain oblivious to the environmental impact of our rapidly outdated hardware and the ever-increasing amounts of energy required to store the images we produce.” Learn more here!

Every year dozens of Alaskan artists create unique art plates for Bunnell’s Plate Project. Bisqued, handmade ceramic plates made by local potters become canvases for brilliant food-safe underglazes. Plate painters are artists, community members, and Bunnell supporters — anyone committed to crafting an excellent plate that will raise essential operating support for the mission and programs of Bunnell Street Arts Center. Plates are exhibited at the Plate Project Opening in May (TBD) and competitively selected by new and renewing Bunnell members in thanks for $125 to $1000+ donations. $1,000 – Select your annual plate anytime  $500 – Peek and select on May 15, 2026 $250 – Select on May 22, 2026 $125 – Select on May 29th, 2026 Painters may paint in-person during gallery business hours. This project welcomes adult and older teen artists, but requires a devotion to detail and a commitment of time to create a quality art plate. The Plate Project is made possible thanks to Homer’s vibrant ceramic community. Local potters transform hundreds of pounds of clay into bisqued plates, Thank You! An artist-led community effort since 1995, the Plate Project is Bunnell Street Arts Center’s keystone fundraiser for the mission and programs that benefit artists and communities across Alaska. This year’s Plate Project will be fired by Bunnell Board member and local potter Jeff Szarzi. Learn more here!
