Meet at the Signal Hill Picnic Area 15 minutes before the hike begins. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and appropriate clothing, carry sufficient water, and bring a headlamp. This approximately 3-mile hike lasts about 3.5 hours and follows mostly flat terrain. Guided by a ranger, the route follows the Wild Dog and Valley View Trails with interpretive stops focused on Sonoran Desert plants and natural history. The hike concludes at the Valley View Overlook for sunset viewing, after which participants will return to the starting point with the ranger. No reservation is required.

Join a park volunteer for a three-hour, 3-mile hike that climbs about 330 feet. The route includes part of the Sendero Esperanza Trail and all the Gould Mine and King Canyon Wash Trails, offering a chance to learn about desert plants, the park’s historical copper mining, ancient peoples and their petroglyphs, and the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Meet at 8 AM sharp at the King Canyon trailhead which is about 15 minutes southeast of the visitor center, across from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. If temperatures at the trailhead exceed 80°F/27°C, the hike will be canceled. 10 people max, reservations required. Please call the Red Hills Visitor Center at 520-733-5158 to make reservations.

Explore Saguaro National Park after dark at our Star Party! Drop in any time from 7pm to 9pm to view the night sky on telescopes run by the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association and participate in ranger-led activities such as a scavenger hunt through our cactus garden with a blacklight. This event has something for visitors of all ages. Carpooling and bringing your own flashlight are encouraged. This is an accessible program, although there is an incline on the paved pathway to the telescopes.
