TICKETS!Please join the USS Hornet as we celebrate Independence Day with a big Steel Beach BBQ on the Flight Deck with music, food, and beverages! The Flight Deck will be converted into a Steel Beach BBQ Party! We will have music playing (DJ Dave Stebbins), food and drinks to purchase, tables and chairs, free tours of the Island (normally a $12 charge!), some games for you to play and in the afternoon, and a Flyover by the Memorial Squadron! In the Hangar Bay, all the normally accessible areas of the ship will be available for self-touring. You can see the rest of our aircraft and Apollo program artifacts (including our Apollo Block 1 capsule, the Mobile Quarantine Facility and the SeaKing helicopter used in the filming of Apollo 13), and our newest acquisition: An F/A-18C! On the 2nd Deck you can visit the Torpedo Workshop, Sick Bay, Officer’s Wardroom, exhibits such as African-Americans in the Military, Women in the Military, Air Group 11 and many more! Please note-we use the 4th of July as a Membership Drive as well. Members get in for Free. A Family Membership (2 adults/2 children) can be purchased for $100 which gets you into the 4th of July for free and onto the ship on any other regular museum day for free plus other benefits! Please join the USS Hornet as we celebrate the anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing and especially the recovery of the astronauts from the Pacific Ocean by the USS Hornet in 1969. We will have a full day of family friendly, space exploration themed fun! On July 24th, 1969, the Apollo 11 Astronauts (Armstong, Aldrin and Collins) returned to Earth after their successful mission to land on and walk on the Moon. Their capsule splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean and the USS Hornet was there to pick them up! All the astronauts and their capsule were safely recovered and brought on board the ship where they then met President Nixon who was waiting to greet them. At our museum we have an award-winning Apollo exhibit, a Block 1 Apollo Capsule, a Mobile Quarantine Facility (which will be open for you to see what it’s like inside!), and a SeaKing Helicopter that was actually used int he movie Apollo 13.
