For May, in honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we are looking at 'When the Emperor Was Divine' by Julie Otsuka. The author's first novel paints a haunting portrait of a Japanese American family being uprooted from their home in Berkeley, California and sent to an internment camp in the Utah desert.
