Adults, join us for a fun and active Zumba fitness workshop at the Belmont Library led by instructor Vicky. Be sure to bring comfortable clothing, comfortable tennis shoes, a small towel, and water to stay hydrated. Please register to participate. Zumba® is a fitness class that fuses Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program. Inspired by Latin dance and music, Zumba® uses a variety of styles in its routines, including cumbia, merengue, salsa, reggaetón, mambo, rumba, flamenco, and hip-hop. The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms are combined with resistance training to tone and sculpt your body. Zumba® is often promoted as a dance party; the type of exercise you’ll want to do every day.

Chen-style Taijiquan (Tai Chi) is widely acknowledged as the ancestor of all other styles of Taijiquan. This class will introduce the Chen-style Taijiquan form, Silk-reeling Exercises and Wuji Qigong. The Chen-style Taijiquan form is soft and graceful with strong rooted stands that will help students to develop strength, balance, coordination and an understanding of basic Taiji principles. Silk-reeling Exercises are a series of spiral movements that promote muscle relaxation and flexibility by reducing physical tension and strain. Wuji Qigong (standing meditation) will help students cultivate internal energy (qi) with proper body alignment for better internal energy flow, enhancing their immune systems and reducing physical and mental stress.

Do you have any reluctant readers? Or alternatively, some super enthusiastic ones? If so, consider signing up for a session to experience reading with a therapy dog at the library! Studies show that children who may not want to read in front of their peers are much less anxious with an animal present, as they are not perceived as judgmental. Reading to them, therefore, helps many become more confident readers. As for your enthusiastic readers? They will get to experience the simple pleasure of sharing that passion with these amazing dogs! Also on hand will be a guided, seasonal art activity for families who might enjoy both! With thanks to our partners for making this possible: Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA's Paws for Tales program.
