In your 1-hour, one-on-one session, library staff will work with you to diagnose and find a solution to the problem. Using our selection of Makerspace tools, you’ll actively engage in repairing your items with support from our library volunteer and staff! Due to high demand, we ask that community members sign up for a single occurrence of this series so that as many community members as possible can participate in this experience.

Gem Painting is taking the crafting world by storm. It’s the perfect mixture of paint-by-numbers and mosaic art, without the paint! Instead, tiny gems make a beautiful pattern and sparkle in the light. Gem Painting is a recurring series that invites creative makers to gather together in the same place on a regular basis. If you are interested in participating, be sure to register for the series, attend the first date, and then drop in on the dates that work for your schedule so you can work on your masterpiece. Participants are not required to attend every session, but we will only be accepting new participants on a monthly basis. As this project aims to gather creative makers in the community, each participant's gem painting materials will be labeled and held at the library until the month is complete. Check the schedule below for when we will provide canvases to new participants and when we will only allow per-existing participants to drop in. November 4, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM -- Canvases available for new participants November 9, 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM -- Drop in for per-existing participants. Chen-style Taijiquan (Tai Chi) is widely acknowledged as the ancestor of all other styles of Taijiquan. This class will introduce the Chen-style Taijiquan form, Silk-reeling Exercises and Wuji Qigong. The Chen-style Taijiquan form is soft and graceful with strong rooted stands that will help students to develop strength, balance, coordination and an understanding of basic Taiji principles. Silk-reeling Exercises are a series of spiral movements that promote muscle relaxation and flexibility by reducing physical tension and strain. Wuji Qigong (standing meditation) will help students to cultivate internal energy (qi) with proper body alignment for better internal energy flow, which will enhance their immune systems and to reduce physical and mental stress.

Join us for a short visual presentation on a beloved Día de Muertos tradition - making Calaveras, or Sugar Skulls. The short presentation will be followed by a hands-on activity decorating sugar skulls for your Día de Muertos displays and celebrations. Día de Muertos is celebrated every year between November 1st and November 2nd in many Spanish-speaking countries as a way to honor past family members and loved ones. In-person registration at the Brisbane Library will open on October 14 at 10:00 AM. Online registration will open on October 19 at 10:00 AM. Due to high demand, we ask that community members sign up for a single occurrence of this series so that as many community members as possible can participate in this experience.
