Do you have a reluctant reader? Sign your child up to have their own session to practice reading with a therapy dog at the library. Studies show that children who may not want to read in front of their peers are much less anxious with an animal present. Children don't perceive animals as judgmental, and reading to an animal helps them become more confident readers. We’d like to thank our partners for making this possible: Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA's Paws for Tales program. Registration is required and space is limited, so register early for your 10-minute slot.

Gem Painting is taking the crafting world by storm. It’s the perfect mixture of paint-by-numbers and mosaic art, without the paint! Instead, tiny gems make a beautiful pattern and sparkle in the light. Gem Painting is a recurring series that invites creative makers to gather together in the same place on a regular basis. If you are interested in participating, be sure to register for the series, attend the first date, and then drop in on any dates that work for your schedule so you can work on your masterpiece. Participants are not required to attend every session, but we will only be accepting new participants on a monthly basis. As this project aims to gather creative makers in the community, each participant's gem painting materials will be labeled and held at the library until the month is complete. Check the schedule below for when we will provide canvases to new participants and when we will only allow pre-existing participants to drop in. May 6, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM -- Canvases available for new participants May 18. 12:30 PM-2:30 PM -- Drop in for pre-existing participants. New canvases will not be available at this session. May 27, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM -- Drop in for pre-existing participants. New canvases will not be available at this session. Canvases can be taken home. This is a fun and relaxing activity that’s good for mental health and wellness. Come give it a try and socialize with your fellow community members. This program is intended for adults and seniors.

Chen-style Taijiquan (Tai Chi) is widely acknowledged as the ancestor of all other styles of Taijiquan. This class will introduce the Chen-style Taijiquan form, Silk-reeling Exercises and Wuji Qigong. The Chen-style Taijiquan form is soft and graceful with strong rooted stands that will help students to develop strength, balance, coordination and an understanding of basic Taiji principles. Silk-reeling Exercises are a series of spiral movements that promote muscle relaxation and flexibility by reducing physical tension and strain. Wuji Qigong (standing meditation) will help students to cultivate internal energy (qi) with proper body alignment for better internal energy flow which will enhance their immune systems and to reduce physical and mental stress.

Bring your bouncing baby to our weekly playtime, which is full of nursery rhymes and songs you can do together to stimulate your baby’s development. Ideal for newborns up to 18 months old, but all are welcome.
