Afro-Latino Drum Workshop with Pedro Gomez Kids aged 10-18 years are invited to the El Sobrante Library on July 3rd at 11am for an Afro-Latino drumming workshop with musician Pedro Gomez. Pedro Gomez is a teaching musician with over 25 years of teaching experience, passing on traditions that bring joy, healing, and empowerment to youth and their communities. This drum workshop is for all levels and will encourage participants to use their creative expression through music, song, dance, and body percussion.  Recommended for patrons 10-18 years old. On-line registration required; space is limited to 20. El Sobrante Library has free, healthy meals for students on Thursdays and Fridays this summer from 11am - 1pm (while supplies last). Meals are provided by the WCCUSD Food Services. Lunch at the Library is a project of the California State Library, supported with funds from the State of California. Are you looking for a thrilling activity that allows you to connect with others while honing your strategic thinking and leadership skills? Come play chess every 2nd Saturday at 11-12 p.m. at El Sobrante Library, starting November. This event is for ages 10-100 but beginning chess skills are required as this is not an instructional class. Instructor TC Ball from West Coast Chess Alliance will referee each session. Come to El Sobrante Library for a seasonal program on mindfulness for kids and families. Librarian Mariah learned meditation techniques as a child, and has maintained a lifelong practice. As an educator, she trained in mindfulness, meditation, and social emotional learning strategies with Mina Srinivasan and Healthy Oakland Kids & Teens. She will guide kids and families in building a mindfulness practice with stories, songs, movement, techniques, and tools. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to practicing mindfulness, so many strategies will be offered, for kids and families to use what works for them. Mindfulness supports social emotional learning, and ongoing personal development, for lifelong use. Four seasonal sessions will be offered, on the last Saturday at 11am on January 25th, April 26th, July 26th, and October 25th. All families with children 12 and under are welcome. Generously funded by the Friends of the El Sobrante Library. Recommended for families with children 12 and under. Participants limited to 30. Online Registration required.
