A lonely and curious mountain lion lives in the dry hills beneath the Hollywood sign. This lion doesn’t feel like they fit anywhere and often thinks about who they are. They spend their time watching hikers and protecting a nearby homeless camp. In quiet moments, the lion thinks about their gender, their cruel father, and what it means to be alive and aware. “I have so many words in my head,” the lion says, “but no place to put them.” One day, a man-made fire destroys the homeless camp. The lion is forced to leave the hills and enter the city that people call “ellay.” As the lion explores the city, they face danger, temptation, and hard choices. They see the unfair parts of life in Los Angeles. They feel the sadness of how the world is changing due to climate change. They try to stay safe from earthquakes, floods, and their own troubled thoughts.
