Discover how their creativity, resilience, and hard work, both paid and unpaid, shaped the legacy of the Mendocino Coast in ways history books often overlook. The Mendocino Coast has had for decades a very long heritage of many crisscrossing trails of spirituality here on the beautiful shores of the Pacific. When the Apostle Paul was a visitor in Athens, he was asked by an Athenian if he had found the statue to the unknown God in the Acropolis Temple. Paul replied to the Athenian that he had. Paul then went on to tell the man that he knew to whom the statue was dedicated. Astounded, the Athenian inquired of the answer. And, then Paul told him. You can also learn Paul's answer of twenty centuries ago, as well as much more about the two thousand years of Christian Spirituality since then. Join the Christian Spirituality Study at Mendocino Presbyterian Church, as we read and discuss the library of books from the Spiritual Formation Certificate Program at Columbia Theological Seminary. This class will help you optimize the performance of your fruit trees according to your own needs and the specific environment in which the trees are growing. The spotlight will primarily be on, but not limited to, the summer pruning of fruit tree varieties appropriate to the North Coast climate, specifically apples, pears, and select stone fruits. Learn how the time of year and type of pruning cut can greatly influence the success of your fruit trees. In February Partners is presenting Pink, a show exploring pinkness, or the presence of pink in the work of gallery artists.  There is a wonderful variety from a tiny pink square on a crossword page to several pink-tinged landscapes, watercolor cactus flowers and a 16 foot pink velvet earthworm.  Pink can be soft, feminine and receptive, but also brazen, shocking and aggressive. Pink’s presence is sometimes surprising as in a tinge on rusty metal or a reflection in the water. Works include porcelain sculpture, mixed media collages, photography, painting, stuffed fabric, weavings and wet felt wool. There is a Second Saturday Meet the Artists February 14, 5-7pm. The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens welcomes school groups, charter tours, and community organizations to enjoy the beauty of our 47-acre garden by the sea. Our Docents are active year-round, learning, sharing their knowledge, and providing group tours for people of all ages. ?Our annual Docent Training is just around the corner, and we want you! We are looking for enthusiastic garden lovers who also love people and want to learn the art of leading tours for children and adults in the exploration and observation of one of our community’s greatest treasures, the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. If you appreciate the green earth and want to help people of all ages (especially the little ones) develop a deeper connection with the natural world and a genuine excitement for gardens, then we hope you will consider joining the MCBG Docent Team. Help us share our fascination with plant life with the curious public! ?Did you know that all local school children get to experience the Gardens through free guided field trips? We welcome more than 1,000 students per year and our Docents lead them through the garden. We are thrilled to provide the local and visiting youth with a place to discover nature's wonder and be awestruck by towering rhododendrons, giant epiphytes (air plants), tiny insects, wandering wildlife, and many other gifts of our local ecosystem. As a docent, you can share your love of gardens with visiting school groups and use this magical garden to foster connections between children and nature. Would you like to join? A Woman’s Place Was Everywhere: How Working Women Shaped Mendocino While men wielded the axes that built the town of Mendocino, women built the community that made it last. Look beyond the big trees and lumber mills to discover the vibrant world of “women’s work.” Through their own diaries, photos, and oral histories, this exhibit tells the lesser-known stories of entrepreneurs, nurses, artists, teachers, madams, and philanthropists who laid the foundation for the Mendocino we know today. Discover how their creativity, resilience, and hard work, both paid and unpaid, shaped the legacy of the Mendocino Coast in ways history books often overlook. Nominate your own local heroine, past or present during your visit. Bring a photo if you have one. Museum Hours: October – December: Thurs. – Mon., 11AM – 3 PM January – March: Fri. – Sun., 11AM – 3 PM

In February Partners is presenting Pink, a show exploring pinkness, or the presence of pink in the work of gallery artists.  There is a wonderful variety from a tiny pink square on a crossword page to several pink-tinged landscapes, watercolor cactus flowers and a 16 foot pink velvet earthworm.  Pink can be soft, feminine and receptive, but also brazen, shocking and aggressive. Pink’s presence is sometimes surprising as in a tinge on rusty metal or a reflection in the water. Works include porcelain sculpture, mixed media collages, photography, painting, stuffed fabric, weavings and wet felt wool. There is a Second Saturday Meet the Artists February 14, 5-7pm. Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday 11-4pm. www.partnersgallery.com
