At Partners Gallery in May, gallery artists interpret and represent in their work their take on "Life on the Edge." It all begins with the awareness of the coast's location on the edge of the continent where tectonic plates shift and we walk the thrilling and sometimes scary steep cliff sides. The edginess of our times presses upon our consciousness, and we imagine trying to keep our balance in the shifting and disappearing of the normal, or what we might need to manage the challenges of a changing pissed-off climate. Edges can include political boundaries like Israel's Green Line with Palestine, or Ukraine with Russia. And of course the edge can be viewed in purely formal terms as a structural element in a painting. Partners artists work in painting, drawing, mixed media, fiber, printmaking and sculpture.

The Mendocino Coast has had for decades a very long heritage of many crisscrossing trails of spirituality here on the beautiful shores of the Pacific. When the Apostle Paul was a visitor in Athens, he was asked by an Athenian if he had found the statue to the unknown God in the Acropolis Temple. Paul replied to the Athenian that he had. Paul then went on to tell the man that he knew to whom the statue was dedicated. Astounded, the Athenian inquired of the answer. And, then Paul told him. You can also learn Paul's answer of twenty centuries ago, as well as much more about the two thousand years of Christian Spirituality since then. Join the Christian Spirituality Study at Mendocino Presbyterian Church, as we read and discuss the library of books from the Spiritual Formation Certificate Program at Columbia Theological Seminary. The weekly study is led by Presbyterian Ordained Elder, and Candidate for Commissioned Lay Pastor, Robert Scott. For more information call Mendocino Presbyterian Church at (707) 937-5441

Experience a spectacular nighttime view . . . . . . from atop the Point Arena Lighthouse. Enjoy a panoramic view of the sea and coast from the lantern room at the top of the Tower, and if the weather cooperates it will be illuminated by the full moon! Our docents and guides will help you experience what it was like to be a Lighthouse Keeper and climb the Tower at night. They will guide you on your journey into the past and explain the unique history of this historic landmark, the tallest lighthouse on the West Coast. Champagne, sparkling juice, and sweet and savory snacks will be served as part of the tour, and you get to take home an etched Point Arena Lighthouse champagne flute as a souvenir of this unique experience! All proceeds go toward supporting and maintaining the Lighthouse Tower, Museum, and grounds. Thank you for your generous support, Point Arena Lighthouse Keepers, Inc. Tickets are $50 each. Reservations must be made by phone at 877-725-4448 ext. 1 or 707-882-2809 ext. 1 or in person no later than 3:30 p.m. three (3) days?before?the event date. We require a minimum of eight (8) reservations to conduct the tour, and there is a limit of 20 guests per tour. The Lighthouse Lecture Series continues on Saturday, May 17 at 4 p.m. with “Born Talking” presented by Anchor Bay resident Peggy Berryhill, a member of the Mvskoke nation of Oklahoma, who will focus her talk on her Tribe, her family background and her path to California. Berryhill, best known locally as the host of Peggy’s Place on local radio station KGUA 88.3 FM, will share maps, photos and stories about her Tribal history with the personal touch she is known for on her radio show. Admission to the lecture is $5 per person, payable in the Fog Signal Building where the lecture will be presented. The Lighthouse is located at 45500 Lighthouse Road in Point Arena. The founder and President of the Native Media Resource Center (NMRC), Peggy Berryhill founded the 501 ( c )( 3 ) in 1996 to produce content about Native Americans and promote racial understanding and cross-cultural harmony. She has been instrumental in building the Native radio network and training independent producers in broadcast journalism. From producing radio show Living on Indian Time at KPFA in Berkeley 1978 to producing the series Spirits of the Present: The Legacy From Native America at the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of American History in 1992 Washington, DC , to producing the innovative comedy series Club Red with Charlie Hill in 2006, and many other productions in places in between, Peggy is known for her vision and groundbreaking work as a Media Architect, designing media and technology opportunities and solutions by collaborating with numerous public broadcasting and community organizations. Other accolades she has garnered from 1978 to the present are Unity Award, the Cindy, the New York Festival, and recognitions from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Native American Journalists Association and the Local Heroes award from KQED-FM in San Francisco. Peggy’s media expertise and commitment to community has earned her several lifetime achievement awards including the 2011 Bader Award from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters for her lifetime of commitment to Native Radio, Community radio and the inclusion of the voices of women and Indigenous communities in broadcasting. In 2014 she was inducted into the Mvskoke Hall of Fame by her Tribe, and in April 2025 was elected to the Academy of Arts and Sciences for Leadership, Policy and Communications. In 2011 the NMRC constructed a full power community radio station in Gualala, California, KGUA 88.3 FM. Berryhill and the station volunteers continue to serve the Mendonoma communities in Northern California to this day.

At Partners Gallery in May, gallery artists interpret and represent in their work their take on "Life on the Edge." It all begins with the awareness of the coast's location on the edge of the continent where tectonic plates shift and we walk the thrilling and sometimes scary steep cliff sides. The edginess of our times presses upon our consciousness, and we imagine trying to keep our balance in the shifting and disappearing of the normal, or what we might need to manage the challenges of a changing pissed-off climate. Edges can include political boundaries like Israel's Green Line with Palestine, or Ukraine with Russia. And of course the edge can be viewed in purely formal terms as a structural element in a painting. Partners artists work in painting, drawing, mixed media, fiber, printmaking and sculpture.
