Chen-style Taijiquan (Tai Chi) is widely acknowledged as the ancestor of all other styles of Taijiquan. This class will introduce the Chen-style Taijiquan form, Silk-reeling Exercises and Wuji Qigong. The Chen-style Taijiquan form is soft and graceful with strong rooted stands that will help students to develop strength, balance, coordination and an understanding of basic Taiji principles. Silk-reeling Exercises are a series of spiral movements that promote muscle relaxation and flexibility by reducing physical tension and strain. Wuji Qigong (standing meditation) will help students cultivate internal energy (qi) with proper body alignment for better internal energy flow which will enhance their immune systems, and reduce physical and mental stress.  Space is limited. First come, first served.

In-Person English Conversation Club

Improve your English and make new friends! Practice your speaking skills with fluent speakers and other English language learner adults in a small group.  Open to all skill levels, for adults ages 18 and over. Capacity limits may apply.

Do you have a reluctant reader? Sign your child up to have their own session to practice reading with a therapy dog at the library. Studies show that children who may not want to read in front of their peers are much less anxious with an animal present. Children don't perceive animals to be judgmental and reading to an animal helps them become more confident readers. We’d like to thank our partners for making this possible: Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA's Paws for Tales program. Registration is required and space is limited, so register early for your 10-minute slot.

Drop-In Gem Painting at the Library Join us for a creative and relaxing gem painting session at the library! Whether you're a seasoned artist or just looking to try something new, this event is perfect for everyone. A variety of materials will be available.  You can: Freestyle Gem Painting: Let your imagination run wild and create unique designs. DIY Designs: Work on small, printed DIY projects and bring your ideas to life. Project Assistance: Get help with finishing any ongoing projects. Canvas Fun: Simply enjoy working on your canvases in a fun and supportive environment. No registration is required – just drop in and enjoy a delightful time of creativity and community. A book club where we discover the stories of adventurers on quests, romances that can save worlds and fantastical places that expand beyond our own. Ready to get creative with your sewing machine skills? Join us for our fun and easy sewing program, It's Sew Easy! This month, protect yourself from the sun with a handmade and reversible bucket hat! This program is for ages 12+. Basic sewing machine skills are required (winding and loading a bobbin, threading the machine, running a stitch). We will be using a Babylock Jubilant sewing machine. No registration is required but space is limited. We will start letting participants in no earlier than the start time. Both sessions are identical so please attend only one class.

Join our Lit Lovers Book Club at the Foster City Library! We are a regular book club for adults that meets every fourth Monday from 6:45 PM to 7:45 PM. We read a wide range of titles and genres: from historical fiction to contemporary, mysteries to graphic novels, as well as memoirs and general nonfiction. If you can't make it to the Foster City Library, this is a hybrid program, and you can join us via Zoom.
