What are the requirements to volunteer? Be an adult (age 18 and up) Be patient, adaptable, and dedicated Be able to read and write in English at a high school level Attend orientation and training Clear online background check (fees covered by SCCLD) Fill out online forms for the program and the County Dedicate at least 2 hours a week for at least 6 months (choose your own schedule) Prepare learner-centered lessons (resources will be provided) Register now to attend the orientation to learn more about the Reading Program and how you can become a volunteer adult literacy tutor! This program is presented as part of the Santa Clara County Library District's Lunar New Year celebration. Everyone is welcome to attend and listen or read poetry and join in related discussions. Meetings are on the second Saturday of every month, no registration needed.  The Garlicky Group of Poets has been hosted by the Gilroy Library since 1995.  These monthly readings attract residents from throughout South County. Ed Nauss founded the readings which are free and open to all, not just poets. âProcedures are relaxed, informal, providing equal opportunity for all,â he said. âThere is never a âfeaturedâ reader, nor is there any internal competition.
