You should still register to receive the meeting link and updates!When and where are books handed out?Books are handed out at the previous month's book club meeting so readers have plenty of time to read the book in time for our next meeting. Priority is given to readers who attend the book club meetings. Oak View Branch Library invites children ages 7 & up, and teens to join us this free of charge Chess Club every Saturday from 2:30-4:00 pm! Keep a close eye on our calendar or your email just in case we need to cancel any chess club meetings. Chess requires focus and attention to play well; however, we have noticed that chess participants burn out before club time ends. Therefore, we decided to reduce the chess club hours. We will still start at 2:30 p.m., but we will now end at 4:00 p.m. We will start this new schedule on Feb 1, 2026. After club ends, the chess club participants may stay to freely play chess, to play other board games or for any of our other passive activities. Thank you for participating in our libraryâs chess club! Information for Participants and Parents:Chess at the Library is offered free of charge for all ages. We offer this program on Saturdays from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Oak View Branch Library. However, keep a close eye on our calendar or your email just in case we have to cancel any chess club meetings. We are not currently accredited with the United States Chess Federation (USCF) so we do not conduct official tournaments. This may or may not change in the future. If you would like to participate in official tournaments, we ask you register yourself or your child with the USCF on your own. We offer limited chess instruction. A short lesson will take place on the first Saturday of each month. Instruction is provided by volunteers: We are not trained chess instructors. We will teach the basics of chess to your child, but improvement requires time outside of the library to study and play. El ajedrez requiere concentraciĂłn y atenciĂłn para jugar bien; Sin embargo, hemos notado que los participantes de ajedrez se agotan antes de que termine el tiempo del club. Por ello, decidimos reducir el horario del club de ajedrez. Seguiremos empezando a las 14:30, pero ahora terminaremos a las 16:00. Comenzaremos este nuevo calendario el 1 de febrero de 2026. Tras el final del club, los participantes pueden quedarse para jugar libremente, otros juegos de mesa o para cualquiera de nuestras actividades pasivas. ÂĄGracias por participar en el club de ajedrez de nuestra biblioteca!InformaciĂłn para Participantes y Padres:El ajedrez en la biblioteca se ofrece de forma gratuita para todas las edades. Ofrecemos este programa los sĂĄbados de 2:30 a 4:00 p.m. en la sucursal Oak View. Sin embargo, estĂŠ atento a nuestro calendario o a su correo electrĂłnico por si tenemos que cancelar alguna reuniĂłn del club de ajedrez. Actualmente no estamos acreditados por la FederaciĂłn de Ajedrez de los Estados Unidos (USCF), por lo que no realizamos torneos oficiales. Esto podrĂ­a cambiar o no en el futuro. Si desea participar en torneos oficiales, le pedimos que registre a usted o a su hijo en la USCF por su cuenta. Ofrecemos instrucciĂłn limitada de ajedrez. Se realizarĂĄ una breve lecciĂłn el primer sĂĄbado de cada mes. La instrucciĂłn es proporcionada por voluntarios: no somos instructores de ajedrez capacitados. EnseĂąaremos lo bĂĄsico del ajedrez a su hijo, pero la mejora requiere tiempo fuera de la biblioteca para estudiar y jugar.Directrices:Todos los participantes, sin importar su edad, deben cumplir con la polĂ­tica de comportamiento de la Biblioteca PĂşblica de Huntington Beach (HBPL), que estĂĄ publicada en la Sucursal Oak View.
