Talks about pollinators, their importance and how to offer them a top-notch habitat, have become popular in recent years. But what about how that pollination actually happens? Sexual Encounters of the Floral Kind takes us into the world of pollination inside the flowers themselves. This film was commissioned by David Attenborough and produced by Oxford University for a TV series called “The World About Us”. It may date from 1981, but the story it tells (and shows!) about the unusual ways plants coerce insects, birds, mammals and spiders to engage in behavior that fulfills the act of pollination is still fresh, astonishing, delightful and at times, hilarious.

10,000 Memories Partition, Independence, and WWII in South Asia Los Altos History Museum will present a newly created exhibition, "10,000 Memories: Partition, Independence, and WWII in South Asia," on display Jan 29 - May 24, 2026, illuminating the largely unknown story of the 1947 Partition of India and Pakistan. Inspired by the book 10,000 Memories, the exhibition was developed in collaboration with The 1947 Partition Archive, a Berkeley-based nonprofit. Debuting in Los Altos before traveling statewide and beyond, the exhibition features first-hand accounts, photographs, and multimedia storytelling from those who experienced Partition, or whose family lived through it. Following the fall of the British Indian Empire and the creation of India and Pakistan, millions were displaced amid widespread violence. The exhibition explores this unmemorialized event, the rise of communal violence, and the impact of polarization issues that resonate today. A cherished community tradition since 1947, this free event brings together hundreds of participants and their pets—from dogs and cats to birds, turtles, and more—for a fun-filled parade along First, Main, and State Streets. Los Altos History Museum explores the healing power of art and storytelling in a program focused on the human impact of one of the largest forced migrations of the 20th century. Titled “Interpreting the Partition through Poetry and Art,” the event will be held on Wednesday, May 20, from 5:30 - 7pm, and features acclaimed visual artist, author, and Partition historian Tanya Momi. Momi is the author of Daughter of a Refugee: India’s Partition—History, Memory, and Art, inspired by her father’s personal experience during Partition and the memories carried across generations. Attendees will hear directly from the artist about her creative process in interpreting historical trauma and view her paintings. Admission is $15; free for Museum members.
