Come pick up free sprouts for your garden! We offer a variety of flower, herb, fruit, and vegetable sprouts. Take your pick! Sprouts are seeds that have just started to take root in the soil. The sprouts come from seeds from the Golden Gate branch's seed library and from library patrons who have grown their plants to seed and donated those extra seeds. The sprouts are cared for by library staff and placed near the seed library inside the branch for easy access. Supplies are limited and available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Join us for an intimate live culinary demonstration with Chef Marlene of Tsiri. Experience the heart of her family recipes and the traditions that have shaped her love for Mexican food, deeply rooted in MichoacĂĄn. Through each dish, she shares her deep respect for quality, local ingredients and the meaningful relationships with farm workers and all those who care for the landâbringing warmth, connection, and community to every bite. This program is in partnership with Oakland Bloom. Oakland Bloomâs mission is to advance economic equity in the food industry. It aims to support poor and working-class refugee, immigrant, and BIPOC chefs to launch their own food businesses, and to reenvision and reshape what a healthy and just food service industry could look like. It pursues these aims by enabling pathways for individual & collective ownership and neighborhood resilience with working class migrant/BIPOC chefs and communities. This program is made possible by the Friends of the Oakland Public Library.

DĂ­a is a nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. It is a daily commitment to linking children and their families to diverse books, languages, and cultures.
