Wednesday, Feb 18 Social: 6:45 pm. Program: 7:00 pm Southern California native Dr. Bennett Hardy is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the San Diego Natural History Museum ( NAT) where he studies our state amphibian, the threatened California Red-legged Frog. He received his B.S. in Wild Life Conservation from Humboldt State University, his M.S. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Milkwaukee, and his Ph. D in Ecology from Colorado State University. As an amphibian ecologist, his research is focused on understanding the variation in amphibian declines and informing successful conservation solutions. San Diego County was once home toa rich diversity of amphibians due to its broad range of habitats from coastal wetlands to mountain streams. Since the mid-20th Century, these amphibians have seen a steep decline throughout the county. Dr. Hardy will cover the extent and causes of the decline of amphibians, why we should care, and the story of the California Red-legged Frog. He will present what the NAT and its partners are doing to bring the once-prolific species back to San Diego County and beyond.
