Join us for a free screening of a recently released and much talked about movie. In case you missed it in theaters, you can see it at the library! Feeling witchy? Get ready for Halloween with a sing-a-long showing of Wicked (2024), costumes encouraged! Originally adapted from Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel Wicked: the life and times of the Wicked Witch of the North, this film version of the Broadway musical is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Revisit this smash hit ahead of the release of Wicked: For Good, coming Nov. 2025. Feel free to bring along an extra comfy chair and settle in for a cozy afternoon at the Rinconada Library.

Join us for a weekly Tai Chi session with Nelson Ng! In this weekly class, participants will learn the basic principles and the philosophy behind Tai Chi, gaining flexibility and a better sense of balance, through slow and gentle movement.  Nelson started learning Chen's Tai Chi in 1989 from Master Gene Chen, who was a disciple of Grandmaster of Feng ZhiQiang. Nelson has been teaching since 2014. This class is free and open to beginners as well as those who have previous Tai Chi experience. People of all ages are welcome. You must sign in upon arrival.

Join us for a preview of the San Francisco Opera's upcoming performance of The Monkey King by Huang Ruo and David Henry Hwang. Dr. Yining Lin, a dramaturg, specializes in AAPI and traditional Chinese theatre and will give the preview talk of this opera based on the Chinese classic novel, Journey to the West. Another opera preview is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2. Registration means you will receive a reminder email the day before but registration is not required.

No partner needed and beginners welcome! You are welcome to practice before and after by checking out their special playlist for this class. This class will take place in the Mitchell Park Bowl. (In the event of rain, the class will move to the Midtown Room inside the Mitchell Park Library.) Sandy and Kent have taught line dancing throughout the Bay Area for ten years. This series, now in its second year, brings contemporary films, including documentaries and narrative movies, each emphasizing the diversity and expressiveness of Brazilian cinema. Movies are in Portuguese with English subtitles.  Rodrigo Torres, a Brazilian film curator based in the SF Bay Area, introduces each film to provide context and to enhance the audience's understanding. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in cinema and an MFA in Visual Arts and began his career in the camera department on movie sets. Rodrigo worked as a curator and film programmer for the State Department of Culture at the renowned Cine BrasĂ­lia movie theater. In partnership with the State Department of Education, Rodrigo organized special screenings for students of all ages and served as the General Media Coordinator, contributing public policies for financing film productions and exhibitions. In California, he has worked as an assistant manager at the Aquarius Theatre and as a juror for the United Nations Association Film Festival. Dates are Saturdays, November 8, January 24 and April 25.
