The Pittsburg Library is honored to offer a space to remember and celebrate those who are no longer with us. We warmly invite our community to participate in creating a Community Altar, a collective tribute built through symbols, images, and words that honor our loved onesâ lives and legacies. Ways to Participate: đŚ Memory Butterflies Take a paper monarch butterfly from our altar, write the name of your loved one on it, and place it back on the altar. Each butterfly represents a life, a memory that still flies with us. đ¸ Photos Bring a photo of your loved one. Our staff will make a copy and place it on the altar with care and respect. (Your original will be returned immediately.) đ Literary Offering You may also leave a literary offering. Take a form from the altar, write your loved oneâs name, add the title of a book they loved in life or one that reminds you of them, and turn in your paper at the front desk. Everyone is welcome to contribute and visit the altar, which will be on display through November 8. Together, we honor the memories that continue to live within us. About the Dead of the Dead Day of the Dead (DĂ­a de los Muertos) is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1 and 2. Rooted in Indigenous and Catholic traditions, it is a time to honor and celebrate the lives of family members, friends, pets, and others who have passed away. Far from being a day of sorrow, it is a vibrant and heartfelt celebration of life, love, and memory. During this time, the living welcome back the spirits of the departed through remembrance, food, music, and beautifully decorated ofrendas, or altars, adorned with flowers, candles, photos, and meaningful offerings. Services include: Personalized one-on-one tech support tailored to individual needs Instruction in essential digital skills to build confidence using computers, smartphones, and other devices Assistance signing up for affordable internet programs to keep the community connected Culturally sensitive and bilingual support available in both English and Spanish Important Information The Tech Hub operates on a drop-in basis, and no appointment is needed. Visitors are welcome anytime during scheduled hours. Assistance is provided by the Tech Exchange team on a first come, first served basis. If there is a wait, sessions are typically limited to 20 to 30 minutes to ensure everyone has the opportunity to receive help. This gentle practice consists of 19 movements and one pose designed to circulate and balance your bodyâs vital energy, or âChi.â Developed in 1974 by Justin Stone, Tâai Chi ChihÂŽ is easy to learn and offers lasting benefits for health, serenity, and well-being. All levels are welcome. About the Instructor: Benjamin Brisjar received his accreditation to teach Tâai Chi ChihÂŽ from the Tâai Chi Chih International Foundation in 2018 and has been practicing since 2013. He currently teaches for members of the Pittsburg Fifty Plus Club (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9 a.m. on Zoom) and for the general public at the Crystal Salt Cave in Brentwood (Mondays at 11 a.m.).
