Together, we will honor the truth, resilience, and contributions of Black people whose stories must be remembered, protected, and shared. Do you have a reluctant reader? Sign your child up to have their own session to practice reading with a therapy dog at the library. Studies show that children who may not want to read in front of their peers are much less anxious with an animal present. Children don't perceive animals to be judgmental and reading to an animal helps them become more confident readers. We’d like to thank our partners for making this possible: Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA's Paws for Tales program. Gem Painting is taking the crafting world by storm. It’s the perfect mixture of paint-by-numbers and mosaic art, without the paint! Instead, tiny gems make a beautiful pattern and sparkle in the light. Gem Painting is a recurring series that invites creative makers to gather in the same place on a regular basis. If you are interested in participating, attend the first Friday of the month where canvases will be provided, and then drop in on the dates that work for your schedule so you can work on your masterpiece. Participants are not required to attend every session, but we will only be accepting new participants on the first session of each month. As this project aims to gather creative makers in the community, each participant's gem painting materials will be labeled and held at the library until the month is complete. This is a fun and relaxing activity that’s good for mental health and wellness. Come give it a try and socialize with your fellow community members. This program is for adults and seniors only Space is limited to 10 participants - First Come, First Served
