For 2025, we will look at the New York Times’s lists of the best books of the 21st Century and choose 12 fiction titles that appeared in both the Book Review’s list and Readers Top 100 to read and discuss. Titles for the first six months will be chosen by library staff and book club participants will vote on the remaining six books. To accommodate different schedules, this book club will be meeting twice a month - on the first Monday of the month at 6 PM and on the first Wednesday of the month at 10:30 AM. Stop by on the day that works for you to share your opinion and whether you would rate the chosen title in your personal top 100! Interested in joining? Stop by the San Carlos Library to pick up a copy of November's selection Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver.

Gem Painting is taking the crafting world by storm. It’s the perfect mixture of paint-by-numbers and mosaic art, without the paint! Instead, tiny gems make a beautiful pattern and sparkle in the light. Gem Painting is a recurring series that invites creative makers to gather in the same place on a regular basis. If you are interested in participating, attend the first Friday of the month where canvases will be provided, and then drop in on the dates that work for your schedule so you can work on your masterpiece. Participants are not required to attend every session, but we will only be accepting new participants on a monthly basis. As this project aims to gather creative makers in the community, each participant's gem painting materials will be labeled and held at the library until the month is complete. Check the schedule below for when we will provide canvases to new participants and when we will only allow returning participants to drop in. November 7, 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM -- Canvases available for new participants November 8, 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM -- Drop in for pre-existing participants. New canvases will not be available at this session. November 21, 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM -- Drop in for pre-existing participants. New canvases will not be available at this session. November 22, 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM -- Drop in for pre-existing participants. New canvases will not be available at this session. This is a fun and relaxing activity that’s good for mental health and wellness.
