Reading Buddies provides students in grades K-3 with an opportunity to improve their reading skills by working one-on-one with a volunteer from Cambrian Branch Library's Teens Reach. Reading Buddies creates a positive reading experience for beginning and developing readers and helps children build confidence as readers. Our volunteers will listen to children read and provide support in phonics, sight words, and comprehension. Students can bring their favorite book or choose from the available selection at the Cambrian Branch Library. Free. Pre-registration not required. However, reading sessions are available on a first come, first served basis and the duration of reading sessions may be limited depending on the number of volunteers and/or participating students. Experience the soothing calm of yoga and meditation, as presented  by our partner, The Heartfulness Institute each Saturday.  Yoga is taught by certified instructors and meditation is taught by a Heartfulness certified instructor.  Yoga may be either chair or regular yoga. The program structure is 75 minutes as described below: 5 min Meet & greet 35 min Yoga and Pranayama (different styles like hatha or arkaya yoga) 5 min posture change break 25 min Heartfulness Relaxation & Meditation (experience, hands-on) This program is geared to enrich the lives of adults and seniors. Please note that all NEW participants will need to complete the Exercise Waiver in order to be able to participate.  The Exercise Waiver must be completed before your first day of participation.  Exercise Waivers will be provided at each meeting. Join us for our monthly STEM Workshop presented by teen volunteers in Girls Empowered in Math and Science (GEMS)! This one-hour workshop includes a brief presentation explaining the concepts involved in the activities. Welcome to World of Weather! Rain or shine, this month’s workshop will give participants the opportunity to engage in three weather-based science activities. We’ll begin with a DIY recreation of acid rain, and then get crafty with UV color-changing friendship bracelets. Last but not least, students will put together their very own weather vanes. Join us on May 18th from 1 to 2 pm at Cambrian Branch Library for a sunny day of science! Free. No registration required.
