The Walnut Creek Library is pleased to host a Pop-up Tech Hub, where interns collaborate with experienced staff from Tech Exchange to offer a variety of valuable services to the community. This program is designed to support anyone who needs help with technology—whether it’s solving problems, learning new skills, or accessing affordable internet. Services include: Personalized one-on-one tech support tailored to individual needs Instruction in essential digital skills to build confidence using computers, smartphones, and other devices Assistance signing up for affordable internet programs to keep the community connected Culturally sensitive and bilingual support available in both English and Spanish Important Information The Tech Hub operates on a drop-in basis, and no appointment is needed. Visitors are welcome anytime during scheduled hours. Assistance is provided by the Tech Exchange team on a first come, first served basis. If there is a wait, sessions are typically limited to 20 to 30 minutes to ensure everyone has the opportunity to receive help. To keep the schedule running smoothly and provide quality assistance for all, the last session will begin promptly at 4:40 p.m. This ensures enough time for thorough support while respecting the library’s closing time. The Walnut Creek Library is looking for creative, energetic teen volunteers (ages 13-18) to join the Walnut Creek Library Advisory Board (WCL TAB).  WCL TAB members will lead ad-hoc and long term service projects, collaborate to improve teen services at the Walnut Creek Library, gain community service hours and more! Members must be able to attend monthly board meetings (September - May), and must be able to volunteer with at least two library programs in the year. Members-at-large accepted on a rolling basis.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers will provide free tax assistance at the Walnut Creek Library on Mondays from 2/2 through 4/13. This service is offered to people of all ages, with special attention to those aged 50 and older. What is T'ai-chi? T'ai-chi Ch'uan is an ancient Chinese art which combines meditation in movement and healthful exercise. The training includes the practice of a 37 posture form which teaches relaxation, balance and strength, and also a partner practice that builds sensitivity, timing and energy. Everyone with an interest in T'ai-chi is welcome. No prior training is needed. This version of T'ai-chi Ch'uan was developed by Professor Cheng Man-ching. His teacher was Master Yang Cheng-fu, grandson of the founder of the Yang system. The Yang system is the most widely practiced version of T-ai-chi Ch'uan with over 100 million students. In addition to being widely known in T'ai-chi Ch'uan in China and the west, Professor Cheng was also a highly esteemed doctor of traditional Chinese medicine, poetry, painting and calligraphy. Recent medical research has demonstrated T'ai-chi’s contribution to healthy aging, including a reduced incidence of falls. A 1996 article in the Harvard Health Newsletter showed a reduction in falls of 47.5% in older practitioners. Other documented benefits include increased relaxation, calmness, flexibility and balance. Regular practice and class attendance is needed to realize the benefits of T’ai-chi. Participants will learn the basic movements of T'ai-chi which are a series of postures done in sequence, that looks like a slow motion dance.

A professional florist will guide participants step-by-step, sharing tips and techniques for designing beautiful, prom-perfect florals to take home. Anyone ages 13-18 is encouraged to join! You do not need to be attending prom/ball. This program is registration only and limited to 25 teens, so be sure to sign up early.
