Tools in the ‘Yellow’ category require the least staff guidance. Tools in the ‘Green’ category require some guidance. And tools in the ‘Pink’ category require the most supervision. The machines available in each session are listed below. Staff are not able to change your category. It is up to patrons to select which category provides access to the tools they need. If they do not yet know which tools they need, patrons should attend Open Studio to make a plan for their project. Have you ever wondered how electricity works? In this workshop, young inventors will build their own circuits using copper tape, LEDs, and batteries. Through hands-on experiments, participants will discover how electricity flows, why polarity matters, and what materials are capable of conducting electricity. This workshop is taught by Ruhan Yang, a PhD student at the ATLAS Institute at CU Boulder and designer of educational toys and tools.This workshop is most appropriate for lower elementary school-aged learners, ages 5-9.If you are an adult caregiver or parent, please register just your child (or children) for the workshop. You do not need to complete a registration form for yourself. Adult caregivers and parents are invited and encouraged to participate alongside children, and at least one adult must be present to accompany their child in the makerspace.Electronics StudioFrom April to June, STUDIO 24 will be dedicated to playful and practical explorations of electronics. Classes and drop-in experiences will cover a variety of topics from the fundamentals of circuits and coding to creative projects that bring technology and art together. Shadowcasting started in New York at the Waverly theater during their original weekly midnight showings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Today, each one of the on stage performers will dress up as one of the on screen characters and mirror, or shadow, their movements as exactly as possible– for most of the movie. Rocky Horror created a perfect storm with its odd timing and many pointless, too long scenes, that gives performers space to deviate from perfectly mirroring their on screen counterpoints and instead create comedy bits. Classes and drop-in experiences will cover a variety of topics from the fundamentals of circuits and coding to creative projects that bring technology and art together. Boulder Public Library District offers FREE Conversations in English (CIE) groups for adult English language learners to practice their speaking and listening skills in a friendly and informal environment. This program is for individuals 18 who live, work, or are visiting in Boulder County, Colorado. There is no homework. Just show up and practice your English with others! This group meets online using Zoom. Adult learners can attend the free online groups by registering on the Library event calendar via the blue "Begin Registration" button. After you register, you will receive an email with a link to the Zoom meeting. *Note* Please try to log-in on time. Join Luna Cultura at the Sewing Revolution. On the fourth Saturday of the month, we will create a beginner-level sewing project. Materials and tools will be provided. Participants can also bring clothing they want to repair, remake, or upcycle.The featured project generally takes 45 minutes to complete. We have limited sewing machines, so participants must share equipment and supplies.Registration is suggested but not required (it helps us calculate materials). The Office of Arts and Culture presents a lecture series as part of the Experiments in Public Art program, which serves as a city-wide laboratory expanding the potential of public art. Unlike a traditional public art, Experiments in Public Art projects are as much a civic dialogue as they are opportunities for artists to work within unconventional parameters. The lecture series is a chance for the Boulder community to learn more about the program and what the possibilities of public art can be.Molly Gambardella is an interdisciplinary artist based in Connecticut exploring the interplay among social, political, and biological systems. Her practice often results in large-scale interactive works that foster collective experiences. She draws inspiration from organisms such as lichens, flowers and horseshoe crabs, which recurrently inform the narratives woven into her work.In the studio, Molly repurposes small, discarded, or mass-produced items, challenging their intended purpose and conventional perceptions by reassessing the significance and impact of the mundane. Integrating elements like water, wind, light, time, and sound, her approach reflects the complex interplay between natural and artificial environments, emphasizing the need for reevaluation and transformation.Molly exhibits and receives commissions internationally, and is featured in publications such as Sculpture, Forbes, and Suboart Magazine. Her work is in permanent collections at Maison Courvoisier in France, Yale University's Science Building in Connecticut, and in private collections across six different countries. In 2023, she was the artist in residence for The Ark Project at Yellowstone National Park. Her 2024 solo exhibition at the New England Botanic Garden combined over 2,000 living orchids with more than 60 sculptures made from upcycled plastic bags. Most recently, Molly was honored with the 2024 Emerging Creative Award from the State of Connecticut, Office of the Arts.Molly earned a BFA from Paier College of Art in 2017 and an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2023. This program is for individuals 18 who live, work, or are visiting in Boulder County, Colorado. There is no homework. Just show up and practice your English with others!This group meets in-person at the Main Library in the Arapahoe meeting room on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, 5:30 - 6:45 p.m.First time participating?
