Boulder Public Library District offers FREE Conversations in English (CIE) groups for adult English language learners to practice their speaking and listening skills in a friendly and informal environment. This program is for individuals 18 who live, work, or are visiting in Boulder County, Colorado. There is no homework. Just show up and practice your English with others! This group meets online using Zoom. Adult learners can attend the free online groups by registering on the Library event calendar via the blue "Begin Registration" button. After you register, you will receive an email with a link to the Zoom meeting. *Note* Please try to log-in on time. If no participants log-in by 10 minutes after start time, our volunteer facilitators may choose to end the Zoom session. The 40 W laser is the only laser with the capability to use the rotary tool and etch on round surfaces. All three lasers operating at once is loud! Please be prepared to wear hearing protection.

No walk-ins can be accepted, so be cool and book ahead!Make a Tool Appointment Sessions are COLOR-CODED based on the level of supervision a specific tool requires. Tools in the ‘Yellow’ category require the least staff guidance. Tools in the ‘Green’ category require some guidance. And tools in the ‘Pink’ category require the most supervision. The machines available in each session are listed below. Staff are not able to change your category. It is up to patrons to select which category provides access to the tools they need. If they do not yet know which tools they need, patrons should attend Open Studio to make a plan for their project. Workshops will cover all kinds of topics including games, art, and sports,with space for kids to explore their interests. There are six unique, standalone workshops in this series and each will be focused on a different activity. Join us for one, a few, or all!These workshops are best suited for youth ages 9-11. Basic computer skills, such as the ability to use a mouse and keyboard and navigate a website, are preferred. According to makerspace policy, an adult caregiver must be present during the workshop. June is National Ocean Month.Dive into insightful conversation with local author Lisa Gardiner who will present on her new book Reefs of Time: What Fossils Reveal about Coral Survival. Gardiner weaves together science and stories from fossil reefs on tropical islands and modern reefs underwater. It takes readers on expeditions to learn about coral reefs history. Why? Because the history of reefs—when they thrived and when they floundered—can help us understand coral reefs today and find ways to help them persist into the future. Doors open at 5 p.m. and books will be available for purchase.Author talk will begin at 5:30 p.m..A book signing will follow the lecture.Dr. Lisa S. Gardiner is a writer, geoscientist, and educator. She is the author of Reefs of Time: What Fossils Reveal about Coral Survival, her latest nonfiction book, and the award-winning Tales from an Uncertain World: What Other Assorted Disasters Can Teach Us About Climate Change. Her writing about the environment has appeared in bioGraphic, Scientific American, Nautilus, The Atlantic, and other publications. To support Earth and environmental science education, she has co-authored curriculum, contributed to museum exhibits and educational websites, and facilitated teacher workshops. For two decades she worked on projects to help people learn about weather and climate change at the UCAR Center for Science Education in Boulder. Lisa earned a BA in geology and marine science from Smith College, a PhD in geoscience with a focus on paleoecology from the University of Georgia, and an MFA in nonfiction writing from Goucher College. The 120 Watt is for experienced laser users only, please book our 75W or 40W laser if you are new to laser cutting. The 40 W laser is the only laser with the capability to use the rotary tool and etch on round surfaces. All three lasers operating at once is loud! Please be prepared to wear hearing protection.

Tools in the ‘Yellow’ category require the least staff guidance. Tools in the ‘Green’ category require some guidance. And tools in the ‘Pink’ category require the most supervision. The machines available in each session are listed below. Staff are not able to change your category. It is up to patrons to select which category provides access to the tools they need. If they do not yet know which tools they need, patrons should attend Open Studio to make a plan for their project. Safety and Use RequirementsAll patrons who visit the makerspaces must adhere to the Makerspace Use Policy. Minors (under 18) must have a parent/adult guardian agree to and sign the Acknowledgement of Risk and Release Form before entering the space. Patrons under the age of fourteen must be supervised by a parent or adult guardian.

This program is for individuals 18 who live, work, or are visiting in Boulder County, Colorado. There is no homework. Just show up and practice your English with others!This group meets in-person at the NoBo Library in the BoulderReads Classroom on Thursdays, 4:15-5:30 p.m. First time participating?
