This program is 45 minutes long. This program is free. Participants will hike approximately 1 mile from the trailhead, stopping at several locations along the way. Ecology walks are great for visitors of all ages. Participants should be prepared for a short hike. Good footwear for walking/hiking is recommended. Please bring water, snacks, and sun protection like a hat and sunscreen. There is very little shade along the trail.

You can drop in anytime. Earn your Junior Angler badge too!This program is open to all ages and all fishing equipment is provided. Anyone age 16 and older must have a Colorado Fishing License to go fishing.To get to the program site, park at the Holzwarth Historic Site parking area and walk approximately 1/4 mile down the trail toward the historic site. This program will be set up near the bridge over the river.

Half the park is after dark! Join Rocky Mountain National Park staff and volunteers on the east side of the park on Friday August 7. Come to Park & Ride Parking Area. The evening begins at 8:30 p.m. with a ranger-led program as daylight shifts towards sunset then to civil and nautical twilight. When it gets dark enough participants are invited to look up at features of the night sky using telescopes. Junior Rangers of all ages are invited to become Night Explorers! Pick up your Junior Ranger Night Explorer book and participate in a variety of fun activities. Park & Ride is located on Bear Lake Road approximately 5.2 miles from the Bear Lake Road/U.S. Highway 36 junction. Beaver Meadows Entrance is the closest park entrance. This family-friendly program is free and great for all ages. Park entrance fees apply.This program wraps up at 11 p.m. When the program ends participants are welcome to stay in the park and continue viewing the night sky on their own.Come Prepared!Dress for Success - Park & Ride is located at 8 635 feet above sea level. After dark be prepared for temperatures to drop. For your comfort and safety dress in layers. Bring water. Pack a hat and gloves.Comfort is Key - There is no seating available at Park & Ride. Participants are invited to bring a blanket or folding chair to use while sitting back and enjoying the night sky.Protect Your Night Vision - To help you safely navigate in the dark bring a flashlight or headlamp that has a red light filter. This will help protect your night vision.

Are you interested in learning about the many species of birds that call Rocky home? If so, you are invited to join a guided bird walk. Discover migratory and resident birds that call Rocky Mountain National Park home alongside a skilled birder!Join us on the east side of RMNP at 7:30 am. Participants will meet their bird walk guide at Upper Beaver Meadows Trailhead.Guided bird walks will take place on Saturdays and Wednesdays, beginning in April through August 29. These programs are free and open to participants of all ages. The program length is approximately 90 minutes. This program will travel up to 1.5 miles through an easy to moderate riparian zone. Binoculars are provided. Participants are encouraged to wear good footwear for walking and hiking. Bring water and snacks. This guided program can be canceled at any time due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

 Help us welcome Rocky's next Artist-in-Residence, Kara Lynn Bressler! Kara is a listener, light observer, geo-typographer, and visual artist. Kara will offer a hands-on program at Fall River Visitor Center on Saturday, August 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.During the program “Bookbinding Leaflets: Design and Make a Field Sketchbook,” participants will create a customized field sketchbook, influenced by Rocky Mountain National Park’s aspen serpentine leafminer.The leafminer’s wandering trails will shape each unique sketchbook cover design, and participants will have the option to learn basic bookbinding to hand-sew their books. Participants will also be free to sift through the artist’s field sketchbooks and documentation of various visual patterns found throughout the park.This is an interactive and drop-in style program. Participants are invited to come when they can and stay as long as they like. All art supplies will be provided. This program is free. You are invited to spend the day helping preserve Rocky's native plants by removing invasive plant species by hand!Rocky Mountain National Park needs your help! Join us this summer to help remove invasive plant species and to help restore native vegetation in Rocky Mountain National Park.Invasive plants are a persistent threat, crowding out native species and disrupting the wildlife that depends on them for food and habitat. What is the most effective tool we have against them? People willing to get their hands dirty! Your physical effort directly translates into healthier ecosystems and biodiversity that will help protect the park for generations to come.Working alongside park staff, you'll learn to identify invasive species and master proper removal techniques, skills you can carry with you long after the day ends. Expect a full, active day outdoors on varied terrain. Every plant pulled is a genuine, measurable difference made for the landscape you're helping protect.This is demanding, rewarding work, and it matters. Be part of the effort to preserve the natural beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park.Advanced registration is required. To sign up, visit https://rmconservancy.org/ and look for "Upcoming Events."Minimum age: 18 years oldTime: 9:00am - 3:00pm. Volunteers should plan to stay for the full duration of this event.Parking/meeting location: Please meet in the outdoor plaza in front of the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center.Volunteers will be driven into the park via shuttle vans.Work site: Sites to be determined based on conditions.Nearest Restroom: Restrooms may be inaccessible for most of the event period. Be prepared to answer nature’s call in nature.What to bring: Layers for rapidly changing weather, rain gear, sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), long sleeve shirt and long pants, sturdy close-toed shoes, lunch and snacks, at least 2 liters of water per person, gloves (if you prefer your own), and a day pack to hold everything.Physical expectations: Manual removal of invasive species is moderately strenuous, with the entire workday spent on-foot, and potentially walking distances that can add up to several miles in montane meadows, forests, and other front country locations. Plant removal will utilize hand tools such as shovels and pruners to dig out plants and remove seed heads.Participants should expect to be out for the entire time in variable weather conditions, from hot temperatures in direct sunlight to cold and windy conditions. Events may be cancelled or shortened if weather conditions become a risk to human health and safety.

Participants will meet their bird walk guide at Upper Beaver Meadows Trailhead.Guided bird walks will take place on Saturdays and Wednesdays, beginning in April through August 29. These programs are free and open to participants of all ages. The program length is approximately 90 minutes. This program will travel up to 1.5 miles through an easy to moderate riparian zone. Binoculars are provided. Participants are encouraged to wear good footwear for walking and hiking. Half the park is after dark! Join Rocky Mountain National Park staff and volunteers on the east side of the park on Friday August 14. This will be the last Astronomy in the Park program of the year. Come to Park & Ride Parking Area. The evening begins at 8:30 p.m. with a ranger-led program as daylight shifts towards sunset then to civil and nautical twilight. When it gets dark enough participants are invited to look up at features of the night sky using telescopes. Junior Rangers of all ages are invited to become Night Explorers! Pick up your Junior Ranger Night Explorer book and participate in a variety of fun activities. Park & Ride is located on Bear Lake Road approximately 5.2 miles from the Bear Lake Road/U.S. Highway 36 junction. Beaver Meadows Entrance is the closest park entrance. This family-friendly program is free and great for all ages. Park entrance fees apply.This program wraps up at 11 p.m. When the program ends participants are welcome to stay in the park and continue viewing the night sky on their own.Come Prepared!Dress for Success - Park & Ride is located at 8 635 feet above sea level. After dark be prepared for temperatures to drop. For your comfort and safety dress in layers. Bring water. Pack a hat and gloves.Comfort is Key - There is no seating available at Park & Ride. Join us on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park on Saturday, July 18, and discover the joy of fly fishing! Come to the Holzwarth Historic Site parking area anytime from 9 a.m. to noon. From the parking area, walk 1/4 mile down the Holzwarth Historic Site trail to the event location. NPS staff and volunteers will be set up along the banks of the Colorado River. Participants will have the opportunity to practice casting a fly rod and go fishing. Junior Rangers of all ages can also earn a Junior Angler badge! All equipment is provided. Participants are welcome to drop in at anytime and stay as long as you like. Stop by to also learn about the Kawuneeche Valley Restoration Collaborative (KVRC) and their work on wetlands restoration projects in the Kawuneeche Valley. What to Bring With You? Participants should come prepared to be outside. Park entrance fees are required to enter Rocky Mountain National Park 24 hours/day. A timed entry reservation is also required to enter the park between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Didn't get a timed entry yet? If you enter the park before 9 a.m., a timed entry is not needed. Additional reservations will be released on Recreation.gov at 7 pm the night before. Offered daily, join us on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park for a ranger-guided Ecology Walk. Take a guided walk with a ranger-naturalist and learn more about the plants, wildlife and habitat in Rocky. Meet your ranger guide at the Kawuneeche Visitor Center flagpole at 10:30 a.m. and enjoy a walk on the Tonahutu Spur Trail. This program is 45 minutes long. This program is free. Participants will hike approximately 1 mile from the trailhead, stopping at several locations along the way. Ecology walks are great for visitors of all ages. Participants should be prepared for a short hike. Good footwear for walking/hiking is recommended. Please bring water, snacks, and sun protection like a hat and sunscreen. There is very little shade along the trail.
