Kids read parts of the story and vote on what our Paper Mario and companions should do next while learning about story elements like heroes, themes, and plot. This program is designed to boost children’s reading fluency and comprehension skills, teach how stories are built, & help children practice teamwork and decision-making.     More about Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door:I’m going to tell you the story of the Thousand-Year Door. An awfully long time ago in a strange and far-off land, a big bustling town thrived. It was a town where all people lived very happy lives and it was said that the town was very prosperous… But one day… A great cataclysm struck the town and its people. Darkness filled the skies, and the earth roared and shook. It was as if the very world had come to a violent end and in but a single night… the town sank into the depths of the earth. Many moons rose and set… Stories of the town passed into the pages of fairy tales and when the town’s site no longer held relics of the past, people gathered at that spot and built a new town, Rogueport. But word soon spread among the people who moved in… that an ancient city lay deep underground and that a magnificent treasure rested there. This is the tale of the quest for the legendary treasure of Rogueport and of the Thousand-Year Door…     More about Game Explorers:Game Explorers is all about showcasing how video games can provide value to a child’s life by using them as tools to explore storytelling techniques and in turn bolstering their reading, writing, and listening skills. Rather than have children staring blankly at a screen, Game Explorers has them engaging with the text, making decisive decisions as a team, answering questions, and following instructions. Children do not have direct control of the game, instead they work together as a team to help navigate the instructor. The gameplay is interrupted by discussion of the characters, setting, and themes of the story. This program is best for Children who can MOSTLY read independently. The group will work together to help sound out long or difficult words. Children should be made aware that they will NOT be actively holding the controller at all times.

Conversations & Camaraderie: a Farmington Valley Men’s Social GroupFocusing on friendship among men from Avon and the neighboring towns. This group is focused on in-depth, philosophical conversations on a variety of topics each meeting will have a different conversation starter. As of January 2026, this group will meet every week. The same topic is explored in the first two meetings a new topic is explored in the last two meetings of the month. This group will meet in the Atrium on the first floor. Tai Chi for Healthy Aging: please register once for the series, even if you cannot attend all three sessions.  May 5 – Tai Chi for Healthy Aging: Joint Health, Boost Immunity, Calm Nerves and Relieve Stress May 12 – Tai Chi for Healthy Aging: Balance, Blood Circulation, Enhanced Physical Coordination May 19 – Tai Chi for Healthy Aging: Better Breathing, Improved Internal Organ Function, Mental Focus and Clarity Longevity is not about living forever, it is about regenerating your body, energy, and spirit to have the fullest possible life at any age. Tai Chi and Qigong contain many methods for physical and energetic rejuvenation. In these participatory workshops, you will be introduced to movements and other techniques that with regular practice promote aspects of healthy aging. You are welcome to attend any or all of these standalone classes. These gentle practices are appropriate for adults of any age. Anyone with severe medical conditions, major injuries, and/or serious mental health issues should consult with appropriate health care providers before registering, and request permission from the instructor. It is recommended that you wear loose, comfortable clothing and preferably flat footwear. Certified Instructor Don Myers has 40 years of experience as a practitioner and teacher of Tai Chi, Qigong/Neigong, and Taoist Meditation methods. His main teacher is Taoist Lineage Master Bruce Frantzis (founder of Energy Arts). Don is the Tai Chi Instructor at Seabury in Bloomfield, and is working on re-establishing his business, Great Pond Tai Chi (www.GreatPondTaiChi.com).
