If you simply love chocolate and cooking or would like to learn to make some elegant desserts and chocolates, register for Basics of Chocolate Truffle Making. The lecture will include some basic information about chocolate, the various types, and how to work with it. Samples and recipes will include several different types of truffle candies, perfect for giving your loved one on Valentine’s Day. Maria Brandriff is the former Assistant Director of the Cheshire Public Library, where she was in charge of public programming.  Ms. Brandriff’s interest in fine cooking and baking came from growing up in a Ukrainian household where Viennese-inspired tortes and confections dominated every holiday.  At holiday time she produces hundreds of chocolate truffle candies, which she shares with family and friends.  Ms. Brandriff completed the Certificate of Gastronomy program at the University of New Haven in 2003.  In early 2004 she had the opportunity to travel to the city of Arles in France for an intensive 3 day apprenticeship with a noted Provencal chocolatier. Ms. Brandriff has also been the featured chef at the Chef’s Table series at Zinc Restaurant in New Haven.

Join us to learn about and experience Embodied Meditation with Marika Baxter.  Embodied meditation is a series of somatic meditation practices that help deepen contact within ourselves and at the same time allow us to experience being one with the space outside of us.  Through these gentle, focused and profound practices you'll be guided to enter your inner landscape and have a felt sense experience of existing as whole and continuous.  Each month we'll explore a different intention to help you more fully land in your body, disentangle from the contents of everyday life and build your capacity to be with all of yourself.  Class is open to everyone, whether experienced in meditation or just beginning.  Marika Baxter, PT is a holistic physical therapist drawing from science and mysticism to help people find healing, wholeness and awaken to their true nature. In her work with clients she uses many modalities including myofascial release, guided meditation, intuitive energy healing, self inquiry and restorative movement techniques. During this special maker event, participants will learn about the Library's Glowforge laser cutting machine. They will have the opportunity to personalize a pre-cut wooden keychain design of the state of Connecticut in a heart by having their initials engraved on it. Participants will then use paint markers to decorate it.This technology uses laser light to cut. Participants will be required to wear goggles while observing how the machine engraves the wood.For children in grades 2-5. Registration is required. Children attend independently. Parent or caregiver must remain in the Library during the event. Space is limited. Registration opens on Thursday, January 22. Please note that failure to cancel at least 24 hours before the event or not attending the event at all will result in a limited ability to register for future events.The same program is being offered two times on the same day for your convenience.
