We will build early literacy skills through repetition and the use of books, rhymes, play and songs. Registration Required; registering for one class registers you for the whole session. Priority registration for this program will be given to Farmington Library cardholders. A valid Farmington Library card number is required at the time of registration.Those without a library card or a non-Farmington Library card number - please leave the Library Card space blank - you will be placed on a pending waitlist. Join us for a special program exploring the life, words, and legacy of President Abraham Lincoln, with a focus on how the Declaration of Independence and the vision of the Founding Fathersâparticularly George Washingtonâshaped his thinking and inspired one of the most important speeches in American history: The Gettysburg Address. This program traces Lincolnâs deep connection to the timeless phrase, ââŚall men are created equal.â These words guided his principles, his treatment of others, and ultimately his leadership during one of the most turbulent times in our nationâs history. The program is framed by two powerful readings of The Gettysburg Address. Hearing the speech at the beginning allows you to experience its impact as Lincolnâs audience might have. By the end, after gaining deeper insights into the meaning of his carefully chosen words and phrases, you will hear the address againâwith a renewed understanding and appreciation for its profound message. To bring the man behind the speech to life, several anecdotes about Lincolnâs character and manner will be shared prior to the first reading. The performance lasts just over one hour. It is delivered in the style attributed to Lincoln himself: slowly, in a high tenor voice with his Kentucky accent. The program begins with the exact words Lincoln once used to open a speech, and it concludes in a unique wayâwith the closing of a personal letter, signed, âYours very truly, A.
