Mooney will focus specifically on abstract landscapes and perhaps some still-life work that are complex spatial constructs. Artist Reception: Saturday, November 1, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PMArtist Statement: For me, painting is an inevitable act, and it is fueled by the tensions of life. My perceptual work, which is on the left and right-hand walls, is more phenomenological: it is about the immediacy of presence, space, and capturing the sensory input of a moment. Tension in my perceptual work can be characterized by that feeling of working against a clock–as light changes over time, it is always a rush to figure out how to respond to the light, the weather, and the mood of the moment.

Tellabration is a mammoth storytelling event - and that's no Tall Tale! It's a storytelling phenomenon, made up of storytelling happenings all over the world. Its purpose is to introduce adults, as well as children, to the pleasures of the oral art of storytelling.  It is one of the programs offered by The Connecticut Storytelling Center, based in New London.The Barney Library, 71 Main Street will host a Tellabration for children on Wednesday, November 5 at 2:00 PM. Susie Scheyder will be telling stories.S. Jane (Susie) Scheyder grew up in the Midwest, lived for years in the South, and now calls New England her home.  Susie will tell several stories, two of which will be from her children’s books: One More Thing, about a boy who puts off bedtime, and How Will You Change the World? .  In How Will You Change the World?, she will lead children to all seven continents, showing how animals take care of the world around them.  Follow-up activities will reinforce students’ understanding of the continents, the animals that share them with us, the colors of the visible spectrum, and our responsibility and opportunity to take care of our environment.  Susie and her husband raised five children and live in southeastern Connecticut.

Perfect for those new to fiber arts, this session will introduce you to the fundamentals of needle felting—a fun and accessible craft that transforms wool into adorable figures and shapes using special barbed needles. What to Expect: Introduction to Needle Felting: Learn about the different types of wool and felting needles and get a brief overview of the needle felting process.Demonstration: Watch a step-by-step demonstration on forming basic shapes—the foundation for creating animals, figures, and decorative objects.Hands-On Project: Guided by the instructor, you’ll create your own Pumpkin!
