The Farmington Garden Club, as we celebrate our 80th Anniversary, in conjunction with the Farmington Libraries is pleased to welcome Adam Wheeler from Broken Arrow Nursery to our Annual Founders Day Event.Adam's presentation; Throw the Burning Bush on the Brush Pile, Overused Plants and Superior Alternatives promises to be a captivating presentation. Please join us! Many familiar landscape staples have become so ubiquitous that they're losing their impact - and in some cases, creating ecological challenges. In this lecture, Adam Wheeler of Broken Arrow Nursery will explore some of the most overused woody plants, discussing why they became popular and why it might be time to retire them. Most importantly, he will highlight superior alternatives that deliver outstanding performance and beauty without negative environmental effects. Attendees will leave with practical ideas to refresh their planting palettes and design landscapes that truly stand out for all the right reasons. Donations of canned goods or non-perishables are suggested to benefit the Farmington Food Pantry.

It meets the first Saturday of the month at 10:00 AM. Silent Book Club ® is a global community of readers, with more than 1500 chapters in 54 countries around the world led by local volunteers. SBC members gather in public at bars, cafes, bookstores, libraries, and online to read together in quiet camaraderie.Silent Book Club is about community. Need a spot to record your adventures or musings? These pocket journals go everywhere (and easily slip into a backpack) with their durable covers and hand-stitched pages. With plenty of space to make your mark, these little books are the perfect companions to keep track of your bright ideas, quick sketches or doodles - great for nature/garden journaling too!  Covers will be designed using Kraftex - a flexible, fabric-like paper that can be painted, stitched, collaged - a great substrate. There will be options for the inside papers and cover decoration. Participants are invited to bring their own papers to add a personal touch to your pages: sheet music, comic book pages, maps, art class drawings, etc. No bookbinding experience required, a great starting point to hold your own book in your hand!  Duration: 1 1/2 - 2 hours Program includes instruction and all materials.
