Celebrate Throwback Summer with The Farmington Libraries at the Summer Reading Kickoff Celebration on Wednesday, June 17 from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM!Bring your dinner, a blanket, and/or some lawn chairs, and join us outside for some lawn games and activities. Then go inside to dance to some throwbacks with DJ Red Supreme as he spins music and leads dances. Didn't pack a picnic dinner? No problem! Craftbird, Ember, and Rita's Italian Ice food trucks will be selling food on site.There will also be activities for all ages provided by our community partners! No registration is required. See you there!*We will have a Sensory Sensitive Hour from 4:30pm-5:30pm that will include a handful of activities, the opportunity to sign up for Summer Reading and more! During the hours of 4:30pm-7:30pm we will have a quiet room on the second floor of the library for patrons who may need to take a break from the noise and crowds. Adaptive storytime will offer families of neurodiverse* children ages 3 -10 an engaging storytime in a small group setting. During this mixed ability storytime you can expect interactive stories and songs, social narratives, visual schedules, fun with fidgets and props, and time for free choice play and caregiver socialization. Activities will generally fall within a preschool to grade 1 interest level.* Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving. The word neurodiversity is often used in the context of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as well as other neurological or developmental conditions such as ADHD or learning disabilities (Harvard).

To mark America's 250th Anniversary, illustrator, author and Advanced Cicerone Em Sauter will give an illustrated presentationdiscussing the role of beer and brewing in American history. Starting from the Pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock (because they were out of beer!) to the modern craft brewery movement and the beers we love today, beer has been woven through the fabric of American history. Beer samples will be served.Em Sauter is an award-winning cartoonist, international beer judge, Advanced Cicerone, public speaker and founder of Pints and Panels, a website she launched in 2010 to focus on visual drinks education. A Connecticut resident, Em has authored four books on beer and is currently working on a fifth book about whiskey.Important Details:Requirement: Participants must be 21 or older. Thank you for your cooperation.Presented by Offsite Connecticut Theatre, this light opera centers around the Sultan of Sulu, named Ki-Ram. Sulu is an Islamic kingdom in the southern Philippines that at the turn of the 20th century found itself subjected to United States colonial rule, collateral damage from the fallout of the Spanish-American War, via the Philippine-American War closer to home. He, along with his Private Secretary Hadji, and others, get tangled up in the Americans' efforts to bring "democracy" and "civilisation" to Sulu.This program has an intermission. We encourage you to bring your own refreshments and look forward to seeing you at the show.
