To commemorate and celebrate the success of the Ridgefield Oral History Project, the Ridgefield Historical Society and Ridgefield CT Pride invite you and your loved ones to the Ridgefield Oral History Project Celebration & Conversation. It will be a time to come together, to celebrate and to share stories. Nationally renowned LGBTQIA+ historian, Susan Ferentinos PhD, will be facilitating an informal conversation with project participants. Appetizers and desserts will be served. For our interviewees, we ask you to bring some favorite pictures or memorabilia to share with attendees.   The goals of the Ridgefield Oral History Project are to record, preserve, and share Ridgefield LGBTQIA+ stories, which are underrepresented in the Ridgefield Historical Society’s collection; to foster intergenerational conversation; and increase civic pride and awareness. This project was made possible by a generous grant from CT Humanities. With the opportunity to get up close to these magnificent animals, hear fascinating rescue stories and learn about the challenges wildlife face, it’s a truly unique experience for nature lovers of all ages. Registration is encouraged but drop ins are welcome as space permits. Christine’s Critters, Inc. is a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation and education organization based in Weston, CT. Founded by Christine Peyreigne, the organization is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing injured birds of prey while also providing permanent care for non-releasable raptors and rescued reptiles. This informal meeting does not have an instructor, but is intended as a casual meet up to explore new Shashibo shapes, build spatial reasoning skills, and have fun! The Library will have a set of Shashibo cubes available for participants to use during the program.We ask that a caregiver remain in the area and assist their child with maintaining Library-level volume and interactions with other children.This activity is part of the Ridgefield Library's 2025 Summer Reading Program: Level Up at Your Library and is sponsored by the Friends of the Ridgefield Library.

The title for this month is Daughters of the Samurai: A Journey from East to West & Back by Janice P. Nimura .In the years after 1853, the Japanese government realized that its citizens would need to understand Western culture as it pursued commerce with the rest of the world. They decided to send some girls to the U.S. so they could learn American ways and return to Japan as educators. Nimura presents complete biographies of three of the five girls who were chosen, tracing their foreign experiences and following their adult lives in Japan.The Nonfictioneers book discussion group meets in-person on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm (except December) to discuss contemporary non-fiction titles.
