Drop off new or gently used Halloween costumes for babies, children and tweens in the Lodewick Children's Library between September 1-30. Then join us on Saturday, October 3 between 1:00-3:00pm to browse and select a new-to-you costume for Halloween!We will accept costumes and accessories (masks, crowns, props, etc.) in all sizes. Costumes and accessories must be in good condition (no tears or stains, please). We will not accept prop weapons, fake blood, or face paint. The Library has final say if a donated costume will be presented during the costume swap. Costume donations will only be accepted at the Children's Services desk. No donations will be accepted past September 30, 2026.No donation is required to select a costume during the Halloween Costume Swap. This is a first come, first served event, as supplies last. Any remaining costumes will be donated to a non-profit at the conclusion of the swap.

Join Nick Donofrio and CT State Senate Deputy Majority Leader James Maroney for a timely and important discussion of the Connecticut Artificial Intelligence Responsibility and Transparency (CART) Act.Connecticut Senate Bill 5 (SB 5), signed into law by Governor Ned Lamont in May, is a comprehensive artificial intelligence and online safety omnibus act. Known as the Connecticut Artificial Intelligence Responsibility and Transparency (CART) Act, it targets high-risk AI applications, safety of minors on social media, and workforce impacts with provisions taking effect through 2028.Please register below.About the Presenters:Ridgefield resident Nick Donofrio is 44-year IBM veteran who led IBM’s technology and innovation strategies from 1997 until his graduation from IBM in October 2008. He was also the vice chairman of the IBM International Foundation and the chairman of the board of governors for the IBM Academy of Technology. His most recent responsibilities included IBM research, governmental programs, technical support and quality, corporate community relations, and environmental health and product safety. He holds seven technology patents and is a member of numerous technical and science honor societies. Donofrio earned his B.S.E.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and M.S.E.E. from Syracuse University. He is also the recipient of 10 honorary degrees from colleges and universities in the UK as well the USA. An IBM Fellow Emeritus and retired IBM Executive Vice President Innovation & Technology, Nick continues to lead on the world stage, recently being named a Trustee of Natcast, the operator of the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC), the core research and development component of the Department of Commerce’s CHIPS for America program.James Maroney was first elected to represent the 14th District (Milford) in 2018. Senator Maroney currently serves as the Co-Chair of the General Law Committee. In his time as co-chair of the committee, he has passed comprehensive consumer data privacy laws, children and consumer health data privacy laws, a law governing state government use of AI, laws modernizing and expanding the practice of pharmacy in Connecticut, among others. Recently Senator Maroney was named to the inaugural Leadership Council of the Future of Privacy Forum Center for Artificial Intelligence. Senator Maroney’s work on tech legislation has been recognized nationally. Senator Maroney graduated from Yale in 1996. Prior to politics, he founded and ran an educational consulting business in Milford. In addition, he was a past president and founding member of the Milford Education Foundation and served on the Milford Board of Education. He is a member and past president of the Devon Rotary, where he chaired the scholarship committee for years.

This illustrated talk will describe law enforcement during Ridgefield’s first two centuries, the arrival of the state police and how they handled major crimes. It will focus on two celebrity Ridgefield troopers, John Kelly and Leo Carroll, who rose to the top of the ranks of the CT State Police, and will include readings of two stories from Jack’s book, Wicked Ridgefield, telling how Carroll and Kelly each solved major local crimes a century ago.Jack Sanders is a Fairfield County native who graduated from Fairfield Prep and Holy Cross College, spent nearly 50 years as an editor and writer for The Ridgefield Press, and has written 20 books on many aspects of Ridgefield history. Candidates Forum Co-Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Ridgefield and the Ridgefield LibraryQualified candidates whose names will appear on the ballot and are running in a contested race for the 24th and 26th Senate Districts and the 111th House District have been invited to participate in the Forum.Those participating will answer questions and share their views on important topics with voters.Members of the public who attend the Forum may submit questions on League-provided index cards on the day of the Forum between 5:45 and 6:10 PM. Questions submitted must be brief, of general interest to the audience, directed to the candidates for their race and cannot be about personal matters. Questions will be included at the discretion of the Forum Moderator who decides which questions will be asked.The Forum will be taped by the Library. No other taping or live streaming will be allowed. All political advertising is prohibited in the Library building and grounds including the parking lot. Use of electronic devices/digital devices by the candidates and members of the audience are prohibited. All participants are expected to conduct themselves with dignity and treat all those present with respect, empathy and civility.Registration on the Ridgefield Library’s website is required.
