Her books have been honored by Bank Street College, NCTE Notable Poetry List, Parents Choice, and others.Julie Choffel is the author of the poetry collections Dear Wallace and The Hello Delay, plus a handful of chapbooks. Her work often appears in respected journals and anthologies. She teaches at the University of Connecticut. Brent Terry’s stories, essays, reviews and poems are widely published. Welcome to the vibrant and versatile world of watercolor pencils, a medium that marries the precision of drawing with the fluidity of painting!Whether you're a seasoned artist or just beginning your creative journey, this course will cover everything from the basics of working with watercolor pencils as a dry medium to the introduction of water to the drawing, which when dissolved will transform your art into a lush watercolor painting. We will also explore color layering, which adds richness, depth and definition to your work of art.This is a five-class series. Sign up for the first one on May 2 and you will be considered registered for all. Class dates are 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23 and 6/6.Materials:• a set of at least 12 colors of watercolor (not wax-based) pencils. It's an opportunity to meet others for support, companionship, and fun!The programming provides structured activities to promote reminiscing, cognition, and engagement for those with dementia, while offering caregivers an opportunity to make new friends and build strong, supportive, social connections.This free series will be held at the Ridgefield Parks & Recreation Center, 195 Danbury Road, and is offered in partnership with Ridgefield Station Assisted Living & Memory Care and the Ridgefield Library. The title this month is The Rabbit Hutch by Tess Gunty.Set in the post-industrial Midwest, this story of loneliness and community, entrapment and freedom, follows Blandine, who lives with three other teens in a run-down apartment building known as the Rabbit Hutch, as she embarks on a quest for transcendence that culminates in a shocking act of violence.Critics' Circle meets in-person on the second Tuesday of the month (except December) at 6:30 pm for a discussion of new and classic titles. Exhibition Statement:Life is full of interesting twists and turns. We travel to far-away lands, trying to find inspiration and solace, travel with companions to share joy of discovery, cross oceans to see the loved ones and run away from loss and sorrow. The cliché of enjoying the journey is as true as the significance of the destinations we reach and the places we see and experience. What we find in those places and in ourselves will be the invisible load that will shape the road ahead.Artist Bio:Dina Belyayeva is a New England-based, Russian-born contemporary realist painter. She received atelier style training in a small town near Moscow known for a historical artist colony where great Russian painters found creative inspiration. Early on she worked in portraiture, illustration and graphic design. After her move to the United States, she pursued career paths in business and academia. From 2020 she dedicated herself fully to art working primarily in water-based media, such as acrylics, watercolor and ink. These are fast-drying mediums, their properties are best suited for our fast-paced times and provide range and flexibility for creative expression. Dina's works are representational, but along with capturing likeness she approaches her subjects with an intent to express immediacy, impermanence, and let authentic energy shine through. She is a member of art associations in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Her works received awards at competitive juried exhibitions and found homes in private collections in the US and internationally. An Opening Reception will be held Sunday, May 18th at 2:00 pm.

Welcome to the vibrant and versatile world of watercolor pencils, a medium that marries the precision of drawing with the fluidity of painting!Whether you're a seasoned artist or just beginning your creative journey, this course will cover everything from the basics of working with watercolor pencils as a dry medium to the introduction of water to the drawing, which when dissolved will transform your art into a lush watercolor painting. We will also explore color layering, which adds richness, depth and definition to your work of art.This is a five-class series. Sign up for the first one on May 2 and you will be considered registered for all. Class dates are 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23 and 6/6.Materials:• a set of at least 12 colors of watercolor (not wax-based) pencils. He’s written five produced, feature-length screenplays (four of which he directed). His films have premiered at Tribeca, Slamdance and the Toronto International Film Festivals, and have gone on to play all over the world to awards and acclaim. Brian Russell has made a many short films which have been featured in over 150 film festivals and won nearly 50 awards combined.
