While this 3-session class is an extension of the earlier "Explore the Versatility of Watercolor Pencils" course, new students, who have fundamental experience with this multifaceted medium are welcome.  In these additional sessions, we will delve deeper into the variations of activating (dissolving) the colors that had initially been drawn with dry pencil strokes. Students will learn how layering of different colors can intensify contrast, which will make your artwork even more striking. We'll also cover the opposite effect by using more water in order to create works that feel more ethereal.-----Materials:• a set of at least 12 colors of watercolor (not wax-based) pencils. (Castle Arts brand or similar)• 9" X 12" or larger pad of watercolor paper, based on your personal preference, either cold press (lightly textured surface), or hot press (smoother surface for more detailed drawing)• graphite pencil for light sketching• kneaded eraser• hand-held pencil sharpener• 3-piece set of refillable water brush pens, aka aqua-pens (Jokoti or similar)• small travel size box of cotton swabsTo attend this series, register for the first class on July 11. Think Mah Jong isn't for you? Think again!Learn to play the traditional oriental game of Mah Jong. This gin-rummy-like strategy game of making 3-4 tile combinations or melds was started in China by men and is known to enhance cognitive skills and improve memory and concentration. It is now played with many different versions primarily in the Pacific Rim. Unlike the American version,  it does not require an annual subscription book which has its own game conventions.For each of the four Monday evenings, lessons are being offered to 4 beginners from 5:30 to 7:30pm. All the fun of reading without the pressure of reading and discussing an assigned book!Bring your own book or find one while you’re here. The first hour will be a silent reading time for all. During the remaining half hour, socialize and chat (or not!) about what you are reading while enjoying a light refreshment. The group will meet on the library's front lawn weather permitting, or if too hot or rainy, will move inside into the Morris Building.Drop-ins are welcome - we ask for registration to have enough seating and drinks. Next Chapter Book Club is a unique community-based book club program for adolescents (16 & up) and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our members love books for the same reasons most people do: they enjoy being transported to different worlds where they meet interesting characters and learn about exciting new things. Taking that journey with a group of friends makes it even more meaningful and fun.This inclusive book club meets most Mondays in Zoom and is open to anyone who enjoys a good story! Non-readers, non-verbal, emerging readers, fluent/avid readers are all welcome and encouraged to participate at their comfort level. It’s Connecticut’s largest water body - 11 miles long, 5,000 acres, and 46 billion gallons of water. And yet, Candlewood Lake is so much more than just a gorgeous recreational asset. It was actually created 100 years ago as a massive hydroelectric generating facility. The lake acts as a storage facility for water, and when the water is needed to generate electricity it's released through a large pipe into generators that supplement the state's electricity supply. When the lake was formed several villages were flooded, and today you can still see the remnants when scuba diving. While this 3-session class is an extension of the earlier "Explore the Versatility of Watercolor Pencils" course, new students, who have fundamental experience with this multifaceted medium are welcome.  In these additional sessions, we will delve deeper into the variations of activating (dissolving) the colors that had initially been drawn with dry pencil strokes. Students will learn how layering of different colors can intensify contrast, which will make your artwork even more striking. We'll also cover the opposite effect by using more water in order to create works that feel more ethereal.-----Materials:• a set of at least 12 colors of watercolor (not wax-based) pencils. (Castle Arts brand or similar)• 9" X 12" or larger pad of watercolor paper, based on your personal preference, either cold press (lightly textured surface), or hot press (smoother surface for more detailed drawing)• graphite pencil for light sketching• kneaded eraser• hand-held pencil sharpener• 3-piece set of refillable water brush pens, aka aqua-pens (Jokoti or similar)• small travel size box of cotton swabsTo attend this series, register for the first class on July 11. Babysitters have the responsibility of caring for children and making important decisions while they are in charge. Parents entrust their child with the babysitter, therefore, it is crucial they know the basics of child care.In this Introduction to Babysitting Course, participants will learn interviewing tips, communication skills, ages and stages of young babies and toddlers, safety and first aid tips, and feeding and caring for children, including diaper changing.A simple test will be administered at the completion of the course and certificates of completion will be distributed.Participants are asked to bring something to write with and a notebook or paper to write on.
