Dr. Jane Lubin is a retired ophthalmologist who has pursued art as both a mixed media artist, and a teacher and lecturer in contemporary art.  In addition to a medical degree, she has a degree in Interior Design.  She is an artist member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists.  As president of the Women’s Caucus for Art—Connecticut Chapter, she has curated area group shows, including a collaborative installation at the University of New Haven’s Seton Gallery, Fairfield Arts Council and the University of Connecticut Art Gallery.  She has had solo shows at Westport Arts Center, Fairfield Arts Council, and Silvermine Art Galleries.  She has served as chairperson of the Westport Arts Center solo shows in 2009, and a juror of the Westport Downtown Merchants Association Summer Arts Festival.  Her artworks are in the permanent collection of Norwalk Community College.  She was an artist member of the Board of Artspace New Haven.

Using kits from local Fairfield county small business 3Dux Design, these students formulate and run introductory engineering programs for elementary school students. Their goal is to inspire the next generation of engineers while helping them develop problem-solving, creativity, and team building skills. This engineering program is lead by a STEAM club volunteer from Wilton High School. Registration is required and opens two weeks prior to program.Caregivers must remain in the building for the duration of the program.Ridgefield residents may be given preference for popular programs.

And her best friend, Scoop, a reporter for the local newspaper, is a person of interest in a string of arsons plaguing her hometown of Ridgefield, Connecticut. Next Chapter Book Club is a unique community-based book club program for adolescents (16 & up) and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our members love books for the same reasons most people do: they enjoy being transported to different worlds where they meet interesting characters and learn about exciting new things. Taking that journey with a group of friends makes it even more meaningful and fun.This inclusive book club meets most Mondays in Zoom and is open to anyone who enjoys a good story! Non-readers, non-verbal, emerging readers, fluent/avid readers are all welcome and encouraged to participate at their comfort level. Come and discover the story of America's first female Landscape Architect, Beatrix Farrand. She found success in the 1920s and 30s in the male-dominated field of landscape design. Born in New York City in 1872, Farrand is known for the gardens she designed for the White House, Dumbarton Oaks, New York Botanical Garden and Yale University. Her career included commissions to design about 110 gardens for private residences, estates and country homes, public parks, botanic gardens and college campuses. Farrand owed her success to her unerring eye for design, profound knowledge of horticulture, and deep commitment to her profession that inspired others to follow in her footsteps. She was famous for her complex flower borders as well as her advocacy of native landscapes and plants, which she wove into a classical design framework. This presentation will discuss her early influences and education as well as her most notable projects.  Please register below.

The Commission on Aging and the Ridgefield Library will feature the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), along with the Office of Emergency Management at today's program.CERT is a national program of volunteers under the Office of Emergency Management that trains community members to be ready in times of disaster, community emergencies and town wide events.  In Ridgefield, CERT oversees events such as the Main Street holiday lighting, the 4th of July fireworks and the Ridgefield Triathlon.  Over the past few years, CERT has also set up and supervised shelters for storm response with cooling, heating, charging and water distribution. In the event of an emergency, it’s very important to know where to get accurate information.Gerri Lewis is Public Information Officer and Sean McEvoy is Director of CERT.  Matt Hicks, Training Officer, will talk about the town of Ridgefield volunteer opportunities and the training required.
