For those who wish to make Public Comments during a virtual meeting of the Thomaston Board of Education:  All public comments must be submitted at least one (1) hour before the virtual meeting begins All public comments must be submitted via the Thomaston Board of Education Public Comment Google Form. Written public comments submitted on time and through the above-named form shall be read aloud during the Thomaston Board of Education meeting.  When writing public comments, please consider Policy/Bylaws of the Board 9325 - Meeting Conduct: Five (5) minutes may be allotted to each comment; the number of minutes allotted may be reduced to adhere to the maximum of twenty (20) minutes of comments to each subject matter. No comments shall include charges or complaints against any employee of the Board of Education, regardless of whether or not the employee is identified in the presentation by name or by another reference that tends to identify an individual. All charges or complaints against employees shall be submitted to the Board of Education under provision of Board of Education policy. Comments must be written in a civil manner, with due respect for the dignity and privacy of others who may be affected by their comments. While it is not the Board’s intent to stifle public comment, if the comments violate the rights of others under the law of defamation or invasion of privacy, the speaker may be held legally responsible. Those unsure of the legal ramification of their comments are urged to consult first with their legal advisor.

The Superintendent's Student of the Month (SOTM) Program recognizes students in Preschool through Grade 12 who demonstrate excellent behavior in and out of the classroom, who are well-mannered and respectful to both peers and adults, and who demonstrate a positive mindset about learning. Thomaston Public Schools Grade-Level Teams nominate one Student of the Month per grade level from Preschool to Grade 11; Grade 12 nominees are the same as the Rotary Student of the Month recipient. Beginning with the month of November and each month through out the school year, the Superintendent's Students of the Month is honored through an in-person celebration (Student of the Month Breakfast).  The parents and family members of each nominated student along with the administrator from the student's school are invited. Criteria for Nomination: All Student of the Month recipients must demonstrate excellent behavior in and out of the classroom, be well-mannered and respectful to both peers and adults, and demonstrate a positive mindset about learning. Each Student of the Month must demonstrate the Thomaston Public Schools Code of Conduct and consistently strive to achieve academic success (see Code of Conduct below).   Thomaston Public Schools Code of Conduct: The Board of Education and the staff of Thomaston Public Schools believe that good student behavior in a school is extremely important in creating the kind of educational environment in which students will be able to realize their greatest opportunities for growth. Students attending Thomaston Public Schools demonstrate good character. A person of good character: Takes criticism willingly and accepts recommendations graciously Consistently exemplifies desirable qualities of behavior (cheerfulness, friendliness, poise, stability) Upholds principles of morality and ethics Cooperates by complying with school regulations concerning property, programs, office, halls, etc. Demonstrates the highest standards of honesty and reliability Regularly shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others Observes instructions and rules, is punctual, and faithful both inside and outside the classroom Has powers of concentration, self-discipline, and sustained attention as shown by perseverance and application to studies Manifests truthfulness in acknowledging obedience to rules, avoiding cheating in written work, and showing unwillingness to profit by the mistakes of others Actively helps rid the school of bad influences or environment. Thomaston Public Schools Student of the Month recipients must demonstrate these characteristics on a regular basis, educating, challenging and inspiring peers to demonstrate the same characteristics. Superintendent's Student of the Month Celebration: During the SOTM Breakfast celebration, the Superintendent will read a brief description of each Student of the Month.  This description is written by the nominating teacher which evidences how the student uniquely demonstrates the Thomaston Code of Conduct.  Each student will receive a written copy of the description on his/her certificate and a gift.
