June 13 – Historic Garden Tours Our museum teachers will lead you through a tour of Webster’s east garden to explore how herbs were used for flavoring food, making medicine, fragrances and insecticides. You can even create a lavender sachet to take home with you… a relaxing and natural air freshener. Visit the museum on select Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. and enjoy live demonstrations from our experienced team of museum educators. Each demonstration will focus on a unique aspect of early American work and play. Stop by and learn about the trades and activities of life on the Webster farm! WordHouse Reading SeriesWednesday June 17, 6PMKaren Warinsky & Shou Jie Eng  Reading starts with an Open Mike Shou Jie Eng is a poet and architectural designer. Originally from Singapore, he runs Left Field Projects, a multi-disciplinary design practice located in Hartford, Connecticut. His writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Bennington Review, Harvard Review, The Los Angeles Review, Meridian, Passages North, and elsewhere. His chapbook of poems, line weights (Sixth Finch), is forthcoming in June 2026, and he teaches architectural drawing at the Rhode Island School of Design. Karen Warinsky is the author of four collections including Dining with War (2023 Alien Buddha Press), and her new release Beauty & Ashes (Kelsay Books 2025).  Her poem “Mirage” won first place in the 2024 Ekphrastic Poetry Trust, she is a  Best of the Net nominee and a former finalist of the Montreal International Poetry Contest.  Her work appears in numerous anthologies including Nuclear Impact: Broken Atoms in Our Hands, journals including The Naugatuck River Revie and Silkworm, and Worcester Magazine as well as online sites. Coordinator of Poets at Large she creates readings and open mics in CT and MA. Find her at karenwarinskypoetry.wordpress.com. The Declaration of Independence: A Minute Reading into Meaning, Memory, and Fantastical Misunderstanding!Thursday, June 18, 20266:30 p.m. Click Here to Purchase Tickets!     What did the Declaration actually declare?     Why…and to whom?    What was the actual point, and in the long stretch of history, where does this monumental document stack up in our contemporary world?  This program is co-hosted by the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society, West Hartford 250, and the West Hartford Town Historian.   About The Presenter: Matt Warshauer is a professor of history at Central Connecticut State University, where he received his bachelors in American Studies.  Fascinated by what he calls “the American paradox,” the ever-challenging conundrum between the nation’s founding document and the difficulties of pursuing essential ideas of freedom, Warshauer pursued an MA and Ph.D. at Saint Louis University.  He has spent the last 30 years exploring the great American experiment in self-government. The author of five books and countless articles and reviews, Warshauer has written extensively on Andrew Jackson, slavery and the Civil War, and, most recently, 9/11 and how the most important and devastating event of the 21st century has impacted the world in which we live. With a unique ability to draw in his audience, Warshauer guides listeners through the complexities of American political and constitutional history so that we can all think more clearly and gain a better of understanding of our role as citizens.
