New Zealand Pen Pal Program--Every Day!Thanks to a partnership between South Coastal Library, Kent County Library, and Wellington City Libraries, you can now have the opportunity to connect with a New Zealander! This is a fun way to learn about another country and make a new friend. We handle all the international postage - you bring in and pick up your letters at the library.How to sign up:Fill out a registration form. Registration forms are available at the library and online. Click here to register online. Parental permission and signature is needed for anyone to participate under the age of 18. Please register all persons under 18 in person at the library.Wait! After you are registered, library staff will work to match you with your New Zealand pen pal! Please be patient.Get matched! You will be notified with the full name of your pen pal and some basic information. Please use their full name when addressing envelopes!How the program works:Write your letter and drop it off at your library. Be sure to address it clearly!When your letter arrives from New Zealand, you'll be notified! Just stop in to the library to pick it up!Respond to your pen pal and write another letter! Drop it off again and we'll send it to New Zealand for you! Your return letter will come back to us, just as before.We will be sending and receiving monthly packages of letters! Join us at the South Coastal Library for a nostalgic journey back to the 1940s. Explore how that era laid the foundation for the social, technical and cultural changes that have shaped the world we live in today. The women of the 1940's planted the seeds for the feminist movements of the sixties. The arts opened the door for Icons of music, launched literary careers, and introduced us to the future superstars of stage and screen. Drawing on the necessities of World War ll, medicine and science made meteoric advances paving the way for space travel, nuclear medicine, and the conquest of diseases that were death sentences only a few decades ago. 1940's fashions showcase the combination of elegance and modernity. The 40s drove changes in our behavior and thinking that provided the inroads for changes in law and approach to civil rights. Trish Chambers Productions' presentation will discuss these topics and more as we explore this exciting era vs. our world today. Performed in period costume. No registration is needed.

Cooking by the Book!Join us once a month for a cookbook book club at the library!Each month, participants will make a recipe from the chosen cookbook (voted by members of the group) and then will bring in the dish to share with the group.Participants are encouraged to discuss cooking, recipes and how to improve them, and the book itself. This club is also a great way for you to meet members of your community and to try new foods!This month, we will be cooking from Theme: Filipino Food | TBDA reference copy will be available upon request if no other copies are available. Participants are encouraged to bring their own Tupperware to take leftovers to go.Also, in celebration of the holidays, we encourage participants to bring cookies to exchange with others.For ages 18 & up, please.Please be advised that the food prepared here may contain these ingredients: milk, eggs, wheat, soybean, peanuts, tree nuts, and other common food allergens.
