Join a First State park ranger on a guided tour to learn about the hidden histories of the Brandywine Valley and the communities who have called it home. The areaâs first inhabitants, the Lenape, farmed and fished this land for thousands of years before the arrival of Quaker settlers in the 1700s and 1800s. Later, in the 1880s, industrialist William Poole Bancroft began transforming the area into the park we know today.The hike will last between 1-2 hours as you traverse uneven and hilly terrain with a mix of sunny and shaded areas. Come prepared with sturdy footwear and a water bottle.Parking is available at Smith Bridge Parking Lot with overflow parking in the field at Ramsey Road and Brandywine Creek Road.

The National Park Service strives to preserve natural resources so that all people may enjoy the peace and beauty of the natural world. This year long bird survey will help First State National Historical Park better understand its natural resources. Volunteers will identify and inventory birds in the Brandywine Valley with the help of a group leader. Prior training or certifications are not required, but the volunteer must be excited to learn about birds and to be outdoors.

Volunteers will meet at Ramsey Road parking lot at 8am and return between 11-12. Please note, starting May 1st, the bird surveys will be starting at 7:30am. Attendance at every bird survey event is not required.
