Intro to Wheel Throwing 4-Day

REGISTER HEREExplore the art of pottery through this Wheel Throwing course. This hands-on class will guide you through the fundamental techniques of working with clay on the potter’s wheel. With a student-instructor ratio of 2:1, this class includes ample instruction. Over the duration of the course, you will learn: The basics of clay preparation, including wedging and centering.Essential wheel throwing techniques for creating basic forms such as cylinders and bowls.Methods of finishing, including trimming, your pieces.The basics of glazing and firing your finished work.Classes will combine demonstrations, personalized instruction, and plenty of practice time to ensure you build confidence and skill at your own pace. By the end of the course, you will have a collection of your own handcrafted pottery to take home and enjoy. Who Should Enroll: This semi-private class is ideal for beginning and experienced potters alike. No prior experience in pottery or ceramics is necessary. Intro to Alcohol Ink: A Two-Day Creative Session

REGISTER HEREJoin us for an exciting two-day alcohol ink workshop where we will explore fundamental and advanced techniques to manipulate this vivid fluid art. In the first-class, students will utilize a variety of tools to manipulate and paint with the alcohol ink to create abstract, floral and/or landscape designs. In the second class, students will utilize pearl inks and mixatives in order to create vivid designs on black cardstock. Demonstrations will be provided by the Artist as well as individual attention. Attendees must attend both dates! Friday, May 9th, 2PM – 4PMFriday, May 16th, 2PM – 4PMCost: $90.00 (including supplies) What is Alcohol Ink?Alcohol ink is a fluid art. The inks are dye-based and extremely vibrant due to heavy pigmentation. The inks glide freely on non-porous surfaces and are easily manipulated with various techniques such as blowing, stamping or brushing. Another unique quality of alcohol ink is that the dried ink can be “revived” when coming into contact with fresh ink or blending solution, allowing for further process of the design. Alcohol ink is a fun and unique medium, allowing for creative freedom. About the teaching artist: Debra L. Snyder, Fine Artist/Potter/Instructor I began my formal art education at Parsons School of Art & Design in New York and years later studied acrylic and watercolor painting with renowned artists at the Woodstock School of Art. My favorite theme for landscapes and seascapes was inspired while living at the Jersey Shore, the Catskill Mountains and the coastal areas of New England. My first encounter with alcohol ink occurred ten years ago while traveling in Arizona. I was immediately intrigued by this fluid art, the brilliance of the pigment and its versatility. Unlike acrylic or watercolor painting, alcohol ink allows for a freedom of expression which I find unique and challenging. I have been practicing as an alcohol ink artist since then and continue to discover new techniques and applications with this exciting medium. Clay art has also been one of my passions and has kept me captivated for twenty years now. I am continually improving and exploring throwing techniques and I find the rewards of throwing clay immeasurable.

Intro to Creativity with Georgia O'Keeffe

REGISTER HEREThis acrylic painting workshop is a little art history, a little technique, and a lot of creative exploration! Instructor Beverly “Bevo” Manning will lead this class, exploring this session’s theme inspired by the pioneer of American modernism, Georgia O’Keeffe, and guide students through her painting techniques used to make some of her most famous works. This workshop will also cover the fundamentals of color mixing and producing a balanced composition. The main goal for this workshop is to give an opportunity for students to learn, explore, relax and enjoy painting. While everyone is encouraged to take this workshop, it was designed with three specific types of people in mind: those who’ve never painted before, those who feel like their creativity is being blocked, and those who just are curious to explore something new, all while leaving with a canvas painting. Before starting the workshop, the instructor will introduce a meditation technique meant to open up the creative mind, helping each student set a specific intention that will subconsciously influence his/her/their painting style. She graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a BA degree in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design and Photography. In 1996 she moved to Florida where she worked as a Graphic Designer. Best known for her colorful abstract paintings, Manning acquired her technical skills by working with renowned painters from the South Florida area. She uses a wide range of mediums such as acrylics, newspaper, oil pastels and crayons, even her interior house paints. In other words, any and everything that can help to create and obtain vibrant paintings. Inspiration comes in many different forms, such as photos, flowers, and anything that touches her creativity. The main objective is to communicate feelings through colors and flowing lines that suggest the freedom of movement. Manning uses an array of techniques which range from Tapping and Meditation to art exercises in order to tune into her feelings. The techniques open up her creativity and prevents judgement towards her own creations. In March of 2018, Manning exhibited at the office of The Octopi Group in Delray Beach, where 27 paintings in a collection where presented. She also has exhibited at Style de Vie and Cornell Museum in Delray Beach. During the summer of 2019, she gave a number of workshops of personal wellness, nutrition and meditation by applying the knowledge obtained as a nutritional coach and therapeutic art life coach.

We encountered strangeness and difference at every turn, but the sunlight, sky, and green nature of the subtropical culture always gave me warm inspiration. I have lived in South Florida for a decade now compressing and symbolizing this into color-rich cubes representing home, the strangeness of being different from my native country, and the process of adapting. Gradually, I developed a series of portraits exploring the signifiers of human nature. Humanoid figures are portrayed as children’s dolls with exaggerated heads and smaller torsos and are centered and anchored as if trying to root themselves into the frame. They reflect child-like vulnerability where the feelings of dread, loneliness, and weakness to the familiar/unfamiliar world are present. Dimensional crystalline shapes simultaneously create and break the form symbolizing complex units that both comprise and undermine identity. Color is bold and convincing, resembling that of nationality, yet it doesn’t reveal the true origin of the figure. In this process of seeing and feeling all my surrounding environments, large puzzles are put together one by one, and these experiences are fused and harmonized in one complete work.
