Weâll begin with the foundations: learning your camera, exploring key settings, and understanding techniques that apply across different styles of photography. Together, weâll focus on three core areas: portraiture, landscape, and personal projects. Here, you can explore which direction excites you most. Day One:Â Weâll cover best practices for shooting and how to approach different types of photos. Youâll have guided practice time to apply new skills, experiment, and ask questions as you work. Day Two:Â Reflection and photo-critique. Weâll review and critique the images you captured on Day One, talk about what worked well, and identify ways to improve. This format creates space for both individual feedback and group learning. Youâll also have the chance to print a selection of your photos on-site with my mini-printer! Sharing her knowledge of photography, she sparked interest in hundreds of young kids who have learned how to use digital cameras, tell a story visually, create interesting portraits and intentionally explore their communities. Andrea curates an annual group exhibit of her studentsâ best work of the year to be on display at Florida Atlantic Universityâs Schmidt Gallery. Other exhibits of her studentsâ work include the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center in Belle Glade and the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta. She has led educational trips with National Geographic Student Expeditions and Putney Student Travel, focusing on photography while collaborating with experts in other fields like biology and science. Andrea is based in Boca Raton, Florida. Her work focuses on issues surrounding identity, migration, memory through the lens of visual storytelling. This class is perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike, and all materials are provided. What is Alcohol Ink? Alcohol ink is a fluid art. The inks are dye-based and extremely vibrant due to heavy pigmentation. The inks glide freely on non-porous surfaces and are easily manipulated with various techniques such as blowing, stamping or brushing. Another unique quality of alcohol ink is that the dried ink can be ârevivedâ when coming into contact with fresh ink or blending solution, allowing for further process of the design. Alcohol ink is a fun and unique medium, allowing for creative freedom. About the teaching artist: Debra L. Snyder, Fine Artist/Potter/Instructor I began my formal art education at Parsons School of Art & Design in New York and years later studied acrylic and watercolor painting with renowned artists at the Woodstock School of Art. Free admission.In large-scale watercolor on paper paintings and installations, Keren Kroulâs work unfolds in a landscape of memory where time and place collapse into magnificent terrains. Monumental in size while vulnerable in materiality, the work is a physical representation of the overwhelming helplessness she feels when confronted by a personal and historical legacy of loss and longing, and the ongoing violence in this country and the world. Inherited memories, neural networks, maps, flora, and architecture are distilled into units of line and shape. Fragmented and abstracted, they are repeated, accumulated, and layered into dense and detailed passages, expanding over multiple paper panels. The imagery floats and sinks, pulsates forward and away, hovering over empty space. Painted with tiny brushes, the process is intentionally labored and prolonged, embedding time into the work. Working on paper, Kroul thinks of documenting, bearing witness. The delicate nature of watercolor comes in and out of focus, recreated as it is remembered. While some images are opaque, reflecting their solid presence in the mind, others are a watery wash, the dissolving of concrete places, lives, and eventually, memories. The beauty of this work rests precariously on the surface. Beneath lies a process of reclaiming, taking up space, generating a site not only for her story, but for all of our stories, an affirmation that each life is singular and of infinite value, deserving of human dignity and empathy. Keren Kroul examines identity through time, memory, and place, in large-scale watercolor paintings and installations. Born in Haifa, Israel, to an Argentinean father and Israeli mother, Kroul grew up in Mexico City, Mexico and San JosĂŠ, Costa Rica. She lives in South Florida, where she teaches studio art and art history in high school and college. Kroul exhibits nationally and has received support from private and state foundations. Recent awards include a 2023 McKnight Foundation Visual Artist Fellowship (Minneapolis, MN), and a 2025 Artist Residency at the Hyde Park Art Center (Chicago, IL). Kroulâs work has been featured on television in MN Original (TPT-Twin Cities PBS), and in print publications including Paint Lab, Color Lab, Tangled Art, New American Paintings, and The Southern Review. Kroul holds a BA in Fine Arts from Brandeis University (Waltham, MA) and an MFA in Painting from Parsons School of Design (New York, NY).
