Youâll learn fundamental colored pencil stroke techniques that bring texture and depth to your drawings. Participants will have the opportunity to create a 3-color project, selecting from several designs and styles. This workshop is perfect for beginners wanting to develop foundational skills or for more experienced artists looking to refine their technique. Students must bring their own supplies. A signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA, CPX), UK Colored Pencil Society (UKCPS, UKCPSO), and a member and an elected member of several prestigious international art organizations. Participants will explore a single simple object, first breaking its tones into three value areas, then refining to five distinct value levels. Using compressed and soft charcoal, chalk, and erasers, attendees will experiment with contrast, edge control, and textural effects, learning how to model form convincingly while maintaining expressive mark-making. The workshop emphasizes observation, structure, and material exploration over perfection! All levels welcome. Participants will: â˘ Understand the role of value in creating depth and form â˘ Simplify complex objects into three-value and five-value tonal studies â˘ Experiment with compressed and soft charcoal and chalk for varied textures â˘ Learn blending, lifting, and erasing techniques to manipulate values â˘ Develop confidence in handling dry media for both subtle and dramatic effects About the Instructor: Juan Sebastian Restrepo is a visual artist based in Florida. He received an MFA in Painting from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute. Working across drawing, painting, and video, his practice explores perception, memory, attention, and the emotional logic of everyday life, often blending abstraction and figuration through playful, diaristic imagery. Restrepo has presented solo exhibitions in Miami, including projects at the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood and [NAME] Publications, and has participated in group exhibitions across the United States and internationally, including in London. His work has been exhibited at venues such as the Coral Springs Museum of Art, 1310 Gallery, and Arts on Douglas, and has been featured in publications including Cultured Magazine, saw palm, Stonecoast Review, and Inlandia Journal. The inks are dye-based and extremely vibrant due to heavy pigmentation. The inks glide freely on non-porous surfaces and are easily manipulated with various techniques such as blowing, stamping or brushing. Another unique quality of alcohol ink is that the dried ink can be ârevivedâ when coming into contact with fresh ink or blending solution, allowing for further process of the design. Alcohol ink is a fun and unique medium, allowing for creative freedom. About the teaching artist: Debra L. Snyder, Fine Artist/Potter/Instructor I began my formal art education at Parsons School of Art & Design in New York and years later studied acrylic and watercolor painting with renowned artists at the Woodstock School of Art. Thursday, May 21, 10:30am â 1:30pmFriday, May 22, 10:30am â 1:30pm *Registering for this ticket includes both dates of the 2-Day workshops Color is one of the most powerful tools when creating a piece of art in any medium. Color not only conveys feelings and emotions, but also passes inconspicuous messages to the viewer. Color Theory Basics is an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of color and color mixing with acrylic paint in a 2-Day workshop. The extended time gives more opportunity to practice as well. The Color Theory Basics Workshop is designed for the amateur artist who needs to solidify the basic, fundamental elements and structures of color knowledge. In order to gain this knowledge, the attendee will apply the information given in class through small projects completed during class hours. The goal is to enhance the students abilities on how to mix colors for the projects. This will help the students achieve a strong visual balance and convey meaningful messages to the viewers of their works. The workshop will be divided in to 3 small projects that will enhance the knowledge of the participants. This will be an opportunity to practice and get familiar with the blending of colors which will be taught in the 2-Day Color Theory workshop. Instructor Information: Beverly Manning has been hosting workshops with Arts Warehouse since 2019, such as Intro to Creativity and Color Theory. Beverly was born in New York City and raised in Ecuador. She graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a BA degree in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design and Photography. In 1996 she moved to Florida where she worked as a Graphic Designer. Best known for her colorful abstract paintings, Manning acquired her technical skills by working with renowned painters from the South Florida area. She uses a wide range of mediums such as acrylics, newspaper, oil pastels and crayons, even her interior house paints. In other words, any and everything that can help to create and obtain vibrant paintings. Inspiration comes in many different forms, such as photos, flowers, and anything that touches her creativity. The main objective is to communicate feelings through colors and flowing lines that suggest the freedom of movement. Manning uses an array of techniques which range from Tapping and Meditation to art exercises in order to tune into her feelings. The techniques open up her creativity and prevents judgement towards her own creations. In March of 2018, Manning exhibited at the office of The Octopi Group in Delray Beach, where 27 paintings in a collection where presented. She also has exhibited at Style de Vie and Cornell Museum in Delray Beach.

Honored with the 2024 Dina Baker Fund Grant from the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, Reyâs work has graced galleries across the globe. Recent solo shows include Bailey Contemporary Arts Gallery, Pompano Beach, FL, Tauni De Lessep Gallery at Palm Beach Atlantic University, West Palm Beach, FL, and the Hammond Hall Gallery, Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, AL. Her group exhibitions span the Baker Museum, Naples, FL, Flatiron Gallery, New York, NY, Studio 33, Spain, Art Brut Biennale, Netherlands, and Project Space Brut, South Korea. Rey was awarded artist residencies at Bailey Contemporary Arts (2023-2024), School of Visual Arts in New York (2019), and Sun Peaks Center for Art and Sustainability (2016). Her art is in the collections of Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., New York, NY, First Albany, New York, NY, and Wasmer Art Collection at Florida Gulf Coast University, Fort Myers, FL. She served as the International Curator for the 2021 art exhibition âLo Cierto Es Lo Inciertoâ held in Soriano, Uruguay. A dynamic lecturer, Rey has inspired students at Florida Gulf Coast University, New College, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. With nearly a decade of teaching drawing, painting, and creativity in Florida, Rey brings a wealth of experience and education to her work. Her background includes extensive undergraduate coursework in drawing, painting, 3-D design, performance art, and art history and graduate courses in film and computer art. She holds an MBA in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an A.A.S. in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design, an M.A. in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and a B.A. in Judaic Studies from the University at Albany. Using simple materials like pencils, charcoal, and ink, participants will explore repetitive, intuitive drawing exercises designed to reduce stress and enhance focus. Thereâs no pressure to create a âfinishedâ piece â the goal is to experience the act of drawing as mindfulness and self-care. This session will introduce drawing as a meditative and grounding practice rather than a technical skill. Participants will be guided through slow, intentional mark-making exercises designed to quiet the mind and encourage self-reflection. Emphasis is placed on process over product, helping students reconnect with creativity in a gentle, accessible way. About the Instructor: Juan Sebastian Restrepo is a visual artist based in Florida. He received an MFA in Painting from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute. Working across drawing, painting, and video, his practice explores perception, memory, attention, and the emotional logic of everyday life, often blending abstraction and figuration through playful, diaristic imagery. Restrepo has presented solo exhibitions in Miami, including projects at the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood and [NAME] Publications, and has participated in group exhibitions across the United States and internationally, including in London. His work has been exhibited at venues such as the Coral Springs Museum of Art, 1310 Gallery, and Arts on Douglas, and has been featured in publications including Cultured Magazine, saw palm, Stonecoast Review, and Inlandia Journal.
