Join Gulf Islands National Seashore for free saltwater fishing instruction program this summer. Learn about knot tying, casting, and fishing responsibly, and perhaps earn your Junior Ranger Angler badge.Dates: June 27, July 25, and August 22Location: Fort Pickens Fishing PierTime: 9 am to 12 pmProgram: Drop in style (look for uniformed staff)Age group: Open to all agesNote: There is an entrance fee into the park All fishing equipment and gear is provided, including fishing poles, bait, and lifejackets for kids. Equipment and gear are available first-come, first-served. If fishing from the Fort Pickens Fishing Pier, no Florida fishing license is required. For shoreline fishing, youth under the age of 16 do not need a license. Adults over the age of 65 with valid proof of age and Florida residency, such as a Florida Driver's License, do not need a license. Florida resident adults can obtain a free Saltwater Shoreline Fishing license. All other adults are required to have a license to participate in shoreline fishing. Licenses are available at www.gooutdoorsflorida.com. Note: This activity takes place on a soft, sandy beach near open water. Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended.

Join a National Park Service ranger on a one-hour Ship Island Excursions ferry ride to Ship Island where you can have access to ranger-led programs in Fort Massachusetts and a private swim beach. The swim beach is a quarter of a mile walk on a boardwalk from the fishing pier. There is very little shade on the island and no transportation. Food and umbrellas are for purchase at an additional cost on the swim beach. No pets are allowed on the ferry. Fishing is only permitted on the sound side beach.
