SweetwaterWetlands Park is not only a place to connect with nature, it's a way to protectour environment. The park, which consists of more than 125 acres of wetlandsand ponds, was created to improve the water quality of wetlands in PaynesPrairie and the Floridan Aquifer. The walk will last about 3 hours. Now a thriving habitat, Sweetwater Wetlands Park is filled withvast numbers of plants and animals, including birds, butterflies, alligatorsand Florida Cracker horses. At the park, you can walk more than 3.5 miles of crushed graveltrails and boardwalks, experience the lush landscape from viewing platforms,and learn about the habitat through educational signs and tours. The entrance is just about 3/4 mile past intersection of 441 onright. Watch for the entrance sign. There is a $5 per car entry fee. You will definitely need water.This is a no shade habitat.  Afterwards go for lunch locally. For more information contact:  Bill Zemaitis or [email protected]

It’s that time of year again when our snowbirds return, and we get to reconnect with friends we’ve missed over the summer! Join us for an afternoon of food, laughter, and great company in our beautiful outdoor pavilion — which seats up to 75 people and offers plentiful parking. CCAS Will Provide the Chicken — Just Bring a Dish to Share! We’ll take care of the main course! Please bring one of your favorite side dishes, salads, or desserts to share. Whether it’s a family recipe, something new you’ve tried, or a simple store favorite, everything is welcome. This potluck-style lunch always brings out a delicious variety of foods — no need to cook for a crowd, just bring enough for a few and we’ll have more than enough for everyone!                            Sign-Up InformationA sign-up sheet will be available at our November meeting to help us plan for food and seating. CCASwill host a field trip to Orlando Wetlands Park  Educational Pavilion. A free tram ride may be available if enough requestit. We will meet at the parking lot. You will want to spend a few hours at thisbeautiful park, so we recommend bringing a lunch. There are no restaurantsnearby. Orlando Wetlands is the first large scale man-made wetland designed totreat reclaimed water and provide wildlife habitat. The water travels graduallythrough this 1600 acre facility first through deep marsh and continuing throughmixed marsh and wet prairie [the area we will be visiting], and finally throughhardwood swamp before making its way into the St. John's River in a purifiedstate. Over 200 bird species and 63 butterfly species have been seen includingboth Bitterns, Black-bellied Whistling Duck, Purple Gallinule. A male VermilionFlycatcher has been seen in the same area for the past two seasons. OrlandoWetlands: Wewill stay overnight at area motels and continue to Merritt Island on Friday January 16th, 2026.The meeting place is an area on the causeway at 8:00 AM.
