Learn American Sign Language! The Town of Windermere and Council Member Mandy David will hold American Sign Language classes for adults and teens from April 11 to May 30, 2025. Each 8-week course is free and open to the public advance registration is not required. As each class builds upon the previous, students should plan to commit to attending each class. Classes are held on Fridays from 1 pm to 3 pm* in the Community Conference Room inside the Town of Windermere Administrative and Police Complex: 614 Main Street, Windermere, FL. 34786 (Building 100) *ASL 1 for Beginners â learn the fundamentals of ASL: 1 pm â 2 pm *ASL 2 for Intermediate Students â build upon the basics learned in ASL 1: 2 pm â 3 pm   Why learn American Sign Language? ASL student, Hope, had this to share: âHi, Mandy, itâs Hope from ASL class! Iâm so excited and just had to share that I had my first conversation with a deaf customer at work today!!đ I spoke with two deaf ladies, one of whom was going blind as well. She put her hands on mine as I signed to feel what I was saying, and we were able to communicate well! We were both in tears by the end of our conversation because she told me that they had been out shopping all day and I was the first person to talk to her/understand her! I am happy to say I understood about 75% of what was said and was able to chat back and forth freely. I just wanted to thank you for not only helping me learn how to sign but also growing my receptive skills to be able to understand what is being signed! I am so grateful for you and look forward to joining class again in a few weeks!đâ
