Chamber Ambassadors serve as the organization's public relations team and are highly visible throughout the Chamber and community. Ambassadors are responsible for engaging, encouraging, nurturing, and expanding relationships on behalf of the Chamber. You've likely seen them at ribbon cuttings and other chamber events!  Ambassadors meet on the third Tuesday of each month at noon. If you'd like to join the Chamber Ambassador team, please fill out an application here. Applications are always accepted and new Ambassadors are onboarded on a quarterly basis. The goal of a Leads Group is to share leads and generate business opportunities as well as develop trusted relationships through the networking process. Only one business from each sector can be represented in each group (e.g one banker, one realtor, one insurance company, etc.) so there is no competition within each group. A single company may not have representation in multiple leads groups to create opportunities for all members to join. See the full group rosters here.

Please join the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce as we celebrate the ribbon cutting for Lydia's Place.  In 2017, April Farlow uncovered a hidden crisis in our community: young adults working hard to attend school and hold jobs, but with nowhere to call home. Many came from unstable backgrounds or had aged out of foster care, leaving them to sleep in cars or on friends’ couches. These precarious situations often led to dropping out of school and homelessness. Shocked by the lack of support for these vulnerable youth, April rallied a group of eight women to pray and take action. Together, they founded Lydia’s Place. What began as a passionate volunteer effort with a single storage unit and a shoestring budget has grown into a thriving organization. Today, Lydia’s Place employs six paid staff, is supported by 13 board members, and engages hundreds of volunteers. Their Elevate program offers housing, life skills training, and trauma-informed support to students aged 17–24 as they pursue education and employment. They also run Provisions of Hope, which supplies dorm essentials to hundreds of college students across Georgia, and their new Step Down program, which helps Elevate graduates transition to independence with reduced rent and financial support for a year.

The market features local, microfarmers to increase access to fresh, affordable food for underserved communities.   The West Broad Farmers Market with the Athens Land Trust mission is to build a neighborhood-based economy by providing a retail space for under-served farmers and food-based small business owners. Join the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce as we convene a group of business, education, and elected leaders to head to Gainesville, FL for our third InterCity Leadership Visit.    Participation in the InterCity Leadership Visit allows attendees to develop and grow relationships with civic leadership, not only with peers in the Athens business community, but also with the elected and appointed leadership of Athens-Clarke County. A primary focus of our 2022 Intercity Visit to Tuscaloosa, AL was Workforce Development, and the trip served as a catalyst for Athens Achieves, the Workforce Development strategic plan, which launched this year and continues to expand employment opportunities in our community. The strategic connections formed on InterCity Leadership Visits have long-term value as we work together to create a shared vision for the future of Athens.  We will meet with leaders in Gainesville as we focus on several areas of interest:  Town and Gown Initiatives: We will be seeking creative ways in which the University, business, local government and educators can work more collaboratively Innovation and Technology: The University of Florida is recognized as one of the leaders in Innovation programming.  Colleagues from UGA will be coordinating this session to gauge what is applicable to Athens Workforce Development: We will seek to learn other, creative means by which Gainesville is building a viable and valued workforce for today and tomorrow Regionalism: Gainesville, like Athens, is a regional hub.   The Gainesville Chamber has taken steps to take on a much more regional approach to growth, services, and outlook. Healthcare and the Impact of Medical College: With the announcement of the establishment of the medical school at UGA, we will focus on how that is expected to impact the local community. Why Gainesville?  With help from our friends at Georgia Power, we were able to compare many communities with similar demographic profiles to Athens. After examining those communities, we honed in on four primary areas of focus: town & gown, regionalism, innovation, and healthcare. Gainesville, FL boasts cutting-edge healthcare, thriving academic-community ties, and a fast-growing innovation ecosystem which has long been considered the aspirational model for Innovation Technology.  During this visit, we will hear from leaders, visit cultural hubs such as the Harn Museum, San Felasco Tech City, Santa Fe College Blount Center, and more.   

We will have a tour bus for transportation as we visit a variety of locations in Gainesville. Lodging accommodations are provided by Hampton Inn & Suites in the downtown district.

Calor Creative is a design studio specializing in brand identity and website design. Combining strategy, design, and execution, Calor works with companies large and small to create identities that are thoughtful and built to last. Coffee and donuts will be served, and we will officially cut the ribbon at 10:30am.
