Join us for a bug tic-tac-toe game, dig your hands into our “bees in a hive” sensory bins and homemade scented playdough, and decorate a “bug rock” to take home!   July: Animal Adventures This July, Garden Playtime takes inspiration from the lively animal sculptures found in Niki de Saint Phalle’s artwork. Families are invited to dress up as animals, create a shared animal print mural, and design your own unique animal to take home. August: Wonderful Water From fountains to flowing forms, Niki de Saint Phalle’s art celebrates the joyful movement of water. Families can enjoy water sensory bins, water lily art, frog pond shaving cream exploration, and frog games on the Children’s Garden lawn. Be sure to cool down in the Splash Pad before you head home! September: Golden Grows In honor of the Garden’s 50th Anniversary, September’s Garden Playtime celebrates the golden colors found throughout the landscape. Families are invited to make sunflower art, scoop and pour in sunflower rice sensory bins, and paint with corn cobs at our mural station. October: Harvest Time This month’s activities are inspired by the harvest season. He truly fell in love with Southern cuisine while Chef de Cuisine at Coastal Grill. Following his passion, he moved South to join the kitchens of James Beard Award winning Chefs Tom Colicchio at Craft as Sous Chef and later Linton Hopkins as Executive Sous Chef at Restaurant Eugene. Chef Woody joined Table & Main as Executive Sous Chef in 2015, taking the Executive Chef role in 2015. Woody uses his friendships with farmers and keen interest in responsible sourcing to support our “simple, seasonal, Southern” menu. He is deeply involved in leadership of the Roswell Farmers and Artisans Market. He’s also passionate about the mission behind Atlanta’s Giving Kitchen, which provides emergency assistance to foodservice workers in need. Woody lives in Sandy Springs with his wife, Amanda, and two cats Gemini and Galazie. As a unique collaboration with the Georgia Department of Agriculture, each dinner in the series is presented by a Georgia Grown Chef and focuses on one or two of Georgia’s important crops or agricultural categories. He developed a love of food at a young age by cooking with his mom and grandmother, Adelle and Barb. Growing up in Texas, he would grow to love the art of wood-fired cooking. Whether it was low-and-slow smoked briskets at traditional Texas barbecue joints, carne asada cooked in an old oil-barrel grill on the side of the road, or peach cobbler baked in a Dutch oven over the embers of a dying campfire during his Boy Scouts days, fire and food seemed a natural connection in his mind. In 2020, Holden moved to Atlanta and began working at Bold Monk Brewing and White Oak Kitchen and Cocktails, his first true experiences in fine dining. The next year, he met chef Nick Leahy at Nick’s Westside and, after working as a line cook, was promoted to sous chef and eventually chef de cuisine. During his time at Nick’s, Holden came to appreciate the value of using seasonal and local ingredients while also learning many of the classic European cooking techniques for which Leahy is known. After Nick’s Westside closed in December 2023, Holden continued working with Leahy as they began opening Vice Restaurant Group. In July 2025, the group’s flagship restaurant, Vice Steak Bar, opened, where Holden is the executive chef. Outside of his work at Vice, Holden plans to open his first pop-up, Chenna, with his longtime friend and former line-cooking mate Jake Farquarson. Chenna will feature a tapas-style menu with a focus on wood-fired cooking and baking. The two plan to hold their first pop-up at the end of 2026. Besides cooking, Holden enjoys golfing, traveling and spending time with his girlfriend, Cori. About Taylor Mead  Taylor has always had a passion for food and nature that easily translated to a love for cooking. She is self-taught and inspired by several cooks, including Alice Waters, Edna Lewis, Julia Child and her homesteading great-grandmother. In her mission to educate and empower others to cook for themselves, she started a small business, Better Off Fed, where she sells spice blends. Her cooking focuses on local ingredients to highlight the beauty of each season. With an interest in food sovereignty, she keeps a small flock of backyard chickens, a seasonal vegetable garden and a few fruiting perennials. She believes in the power and joy of nourishing ourselves, our communities and our planet with good food and sustainable agricultural practices.

Saturdays at 10 a.m.: Drop by the Fuqua Conservatory lobby to watch the frogs jump into action when presented with their meals. An amphibian specialist will share fun facts and answer questions about these captivating creatures. Public frog feedings allow visitors to observe one of the most interesting aspects of these amphibians – their feeding behaviors. Most frogs have long sticky tongues that shoot out at prey. Some, like Poison frogs, are able to do this with such incredible speed and accuracy that all visitors notice are flies disappearing. Others, like the fringed leaf frog, are dramatic feeders that stuff the crickets into their mouths with their hands.

Introduce your little one to the joys of nature! Join us for fun activities that will stimulate your child’s interest in the natural world. With a new theme each month and activities that engage the senses and spark creativity, Garden Playtime is an enjoyable and enriching activity for families throughout the spring, summer and fall. Dates: Tuesdays, March – Oct.Time: 10 a.m. – noonFree with Garden admission Suggested ages: 6 months – 5 years. Weather permitting. March: Joyful Movement Kick off Garden Playtime with music, movement, and hands-on fun! Dance at our music party station, create a colorful wind sock to take home, and explore a variety of sounds at our sensory bins. Families can also explore instruments made from plants and experiment with sounds inspired by nature. April: Patterns Everywhere! Celebrate National Haiku Poetry Day with us this April as we combine art with nature. Come learn how natural patterns create interesting textures and then mimic those textures in art. Explore forest scenes in our sensory bins, paint with natural items at our mural station, and create your own recycled art mosaic to take home. May: Mythical Creatures What magical creatures might you discover in Niki de Saint Phalle’s bold and playful sculptures? Venture with us into a fantastical world of mythical animals and imaginative forms inspired by her art. Visit the mermaids in our sensory bins, uncover hidden dragon treasure in kinetic sand, and create your own slithering snake at the art station. June: Pollinator Friends Celebrate National Pollinator Week with us this June. Learn about the valuable role of diverse pollinator species in our ecosystems, and investigate these fascinating critters up close. Join us for a bug tic-tac-toe game, dig your hands into our “bees in a hive” sensory bins and homemade scented playdough, and decorate a “bug rock” to take home!   July: Animal Adventures This July, Garden Playtime takes inspiration from the lively animal sculptures found in Niki de Saint Phalle’s artwork. Families are invited to dress up as animals, create a shared animal print mural, and design your own unique animal to take home. August: Wonderful Water From fountains to flowing forms, Niki de Saint Phalle’s art celebrates the joyful movement of water. Families can enjoy water sensory bins, water lily art, frog pond shaving cream exploration, and frog games on the Children’s Garden lawn. Be sure to cool down in the Splash Pad before you head home! September: Golden Grows In honor of the Garden’s 50th Anniversary, September’s Garden Playtime celebrates the golden colors found throughout the landscape. Families are invited to make sunflower art, scoop and pour in sunflower rice sensory bins, and paint with corn cobs at our mural station. October: Harvest Time This month’s activities are inspired by the harvest season. From delicious food aromas to the crunching sounds of leaves, relax into the nostalgia of autumn as we wind down Garden Playtime for the year. In 2015, she opened Bellina Alimentari at Ponce City Market, launching what would become a collection of restaurants exploring her cross-cultural upbringing. Born and raised in Haifa, Israel, Baum moved to Florence, Italy at the age of 21 to study architecture at Florence University.
