Join Chief of Interpretation Ray Hamel for the opening session of a new lecture series exploring the Road to Atlanta and the broader Western Theater of the Civil War, 1863–1864. This first program sets the stage with the dramatic joint campaign of the U.S. Navy and the Army of the Tennessee as they moved to break the stronghold known as the “Gibraltar of the Confederacy.” Discover how the fall of Vicksburg reshaped the war in the West and paved the way toward Atlanta.

This program will take place in the Visitor Center auditorium.

Infantry Demonstrations

Life for the infantry soldier (Union or Confederate) was anything but easy. Long marches, bad food, and worse living conditions made it tough going for these young men. Join our living historians as they set up camp on the mountain and demonstrate a musket firing. 

These demonstrations will be held in the field in front of the Visitor Center

Artillery Demonstrations

Artillery was a vital component to the operations of both armies during the Atlanta Campaign and played a key role in several engagements during the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. These programs include a short interpretive talk as well as a firing demonstration!  ...More
