Rusty Blackbird Survey When: Sunday, March 29, 6:00–8:00 p.m. Where: Savannah Christian Preparatory School, 1599 Chatham Parkway, Savannah, GA 31408 What: Ogeechee Audubon continues to monitor use of this site as a pre-roost staging area for Rusty Blackbirds. This restricted access site is likely the most reliable location in the area for observing these birds, which have undergone massive population declines over the past half century. If you would like to join the survey team, please contact Stan Gray at least one day in advance. To attend, please meet a team member at the school’s front gate precisely at the stated time. The next public meeting for Ogeechee Audubon will be on Tuesday, April 21, from 7:00–8:00 p.m. Our speaker will be Jenn Clementoni, executive director of The Carolina Bight Birding Center.  A South Carolina Lowcountry Master Naturalist, Clementoni broke the Beaufort County record in 2025 with 264 species sighted.  Spanning the past five years, she has sighted 291 species in the Lowcountry, including many rarities. Her passion for educating others about birds is evident through her volunteer service, which includes providing free educational tours and presentations to students, International Shorebird Surveys, Christmas Bird Counts, and more.For this talk, Clementoni will cover the birds most likelyto visit your yard in Savannah and help you gain a better understanding of their feeding habits, annual changes in plumage, and the specifics of their fascinating life cycle.  She will also discuss the shorebirds and marsh birds found in our area and the best ways to view them.  All meetings are held at the Gray’s Reef Ocean DiscoveryCenter(340 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., on the corner of Jones and West Charlton Streets). The center is surrounded by ample street parking, as well as a lot just north of the building that is $3 for two hours.  Please note, this lot is separated into two halves — the eastern side of the lot is labeled “West Broad Tenants and Guests Only” on an oversized white sign and reserved for Ogeechee Audubon members; the western sideof the lot is reserved for SCAD and is clearly marked “SCAD Parking Only” on a small sign. Another option is the Savannah Visitor Center parking lot, a block away, where the first hour is free and then costs $1/hour thereafter.
