The Clearwater County Chamber Of Commerce is proud to announce the 2026 Maniac Dam Race. This exciting event boasts a non-traditional run/walk designed to appeal to every age! This just might be one of the best ways to enjoy Dworshak Dam, which is the highest straight-axis concrete dam in the Western Hemisphere! The race offers runners and walkers two unique choices, you can choose either a 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk or a 3K (1.86 miles) run/walk experience. During the race athletes walk/run along the Dworshak Reservoir and the Clearwater River and over the Dworshak Dam to finish at the Visitors Center where you can enjoy your hard earned rest, snacks and refreshments.All registration proceeds from this unique event will go back into Clearwater County through the operations of the Clearwater County Chamber of Commerce. HOW TO REGISTER:Pre-Registration: Adults: $20Young Children (ages 6-10): $15 (5 and under are free)Race Day Registration: Adults: $30Young Children (ages 6-10): $20 (children 5 & under are free)Registration fees include an official event t-shirt (we will make our best effort, but we are unable to guarantee sizing) and water while you are running the race. Please pre-register for the event at the Clearwater County Chamber Of Commerce office by calling 208-476-4335, e-mailing your completed registration form to [email protected] or mailing your completed registration form to PO Box 2346, Orofino, ID 83544. Please include registration fee with form, make checks payable to the “Clearwater County Chamber Of Commerce”.* Please note that no refunds will be offered, the race will be run rain or shine! PRIZES:First, Second & Third place finishers in each age division will be given a Award Certificate announced at the awards ceremony. * Also please note that you must be actively participating to win (i.e. children in strollers are not eligible for winners prizes) Where: Participants will register at the Dworshak Dam Visitors Center starting at 8 am. Racers will then proceed to the Dworshak View Point where the start line will be set up. Participants will follow along the outlined 3K or 5K course across the Dworshak Dam to the midpoint check-in station and then return along the course to the finish line back at the Dworshak Dam Visitors Center where food, drinks and other activities will take place. Check In & Start Line Details: Due to Dam Security, the starting line area will not open until 7 am on Saturday, May 30th. Access to the start area will be via Viewpoint Road. The 5K run/walk will begin at 10 am, the 3K run/walk will begin at 10:05 am. Access to the Dam area will be restricted to registered “Maniac Dam Race” participants. Security bands and numbers will be issued to enforce the restricted access. SECURITY: All athletes will be issued security wrist bands that will be used to cross check names and bib numbers for permission to enter the dam area. Non participants, and/or anyone not wearing a security wrist band will not be allowed inside the dam area. Because the US Army Corps of Engineers is allowing the event to go across the top of the Dworshak Dam, participants will be required to show PHOTO ID at check-in, and will not be allowed to carry a back pack or other such items across the dam. Participants can take a camera, water bottle or a “bare bones” stroller across the dam, but nothing else. No pets are allowed. Race Day Schedule:Saturday May 30, 2026:7:00 am: Bureau Security opens access to start area via Viewpoint Drive8:00 am: Check In, Packet Pick Up & Late Registration opens (MUST HAVE PHOTO ID) at Visitors Center9:45 am: Pre Race Athletes Meeting Starts at the starting line10:00 am: 5K run/walk start10:05 am: 3K run/walk start11:30 am: Post Race Food Opens at the Dworshak Dam Visitors Center12:00 pm: Awards CeremonyCourse Cut Off Times: 12:00 pm Note: Cut off times for race support will be enforced. That means if you choose to do so you can continue on if you are on the course. However there will be no support crew on the course after the cut off times. Access to the dam will also no longer be available from 12:00 pm on.Also for security measures all runners MUST “check-out” at the Visitors Center before they leave Dworshak Dam Property. This means that even if you are unable to finish the race you must “check-out” before you leave.
